Tension rises; media provide detailed directions to home of shooter cop

Kinder, gentler approach fails; Ferguson cops back to tear gas and riot gear

After all the moaning about the "militarization of the police," apparently the Missouri Highway Patrol decided it was time to ditch the SWAT/seige approach and try the kinder, gentler tactic of walking amongst the people - building relationships and seeking to inspire calm. How did that work?
Not at all:
Johnson on Saturday said police would not enforce the curfew with armored trucks and tear gas but would communicate with protesters and give them ample opportunity to leave. Local officers faced strong criticism earlier in the week for their use of tear gas and rubber bullets against protesters. Johnson said one tear gas canister was deployed Friday night after the group of rioters became unruly and several officers got trapped and injured. Brown's death had already ignited several days of clashes with furious protesters. Tensions eased Thursday after Nixon turned oversight of the protests over to the Missouri Highway Patrol. Gone were the police in riot gear and armored vehicles, replaced by the new patrol commander who personally walked through the streets with demonstrators. But Friday night marked a resurgence of unrest.

On Saturday, some residents said it appeared the violent acts were being committed by people who came from other suburbs or states.
All the focus on the tacits of the police has been misplaced from the start. When a bunch of people take to the streets and riot, it is not the responsibility of the police to employ tactics that will sooth them like warm water and get them to chillax and listen to Yes albums. Don't want the police tear-gassing you and shooting you with rubber bullets? Don't riot! The cops themselves found out pretty quickly this weekend just how much good it does to go against your training for dealing with riot situations because you're getting criticized by the media - people who know as much about riot control as I know about cardiology. Meanwhile, as Gateway Pundit reports, the media are doing all they can to get Officer Darren Wilson killed:
CNN broadcast a report Friday that showed the house, including the street number, of the Ferguson police officer who police say shot Mike Brown. The officer has been in hiding due to death threats since the shooting last Saturday. His name, Darren Wilson, was just released Friday morning. Another news outlet apologized for broadcasting video of Wilson’s home while others have virtually drawn a map to Wilson’s house for those bent on vengeance. Yahoo News named the community Wilson where Wilson resides and published a photograph of the officer. The UK Daily Mail also named the community, posted photos of the officer and gave a description of the house. USA Today also named the community and reported a local police presence. The Washington Post named the street where Wilson lives.
This is really extraordinary. When did it become standard practice for the media to report the location of even a crime suspect's home? (And as of now, Officer Wilson is accused of no crime.) They're treating him as if he is public enemy number one, such that even the basic expectation of safety and security in his own home is too much to afford him. This in spite of the fact that we still don't really know all the facts about what happened the night Michael Brown was killed. There's no way to prove it, of course, but my personal belief is that all the national attention on these riots is prolonging them. Those encouraging the mayhem get more attention for their agenda. Those who just want to engage in mischief have a crowd to get lost in. And the media and politicians blame the whole thing on the cops. Great work if you can get it. The least reported element of this whole story is the only one that really matters, which is what led to the shooting of Michael Brown. That's almost ceased to matter as we obsess instead of the idiotic "militarization of the police" angle and, of course, the predictable diversion into racial politics. Does anyone even care anymore what actually happened, and why?
