The Dwindling of the Middle Class

It is very difficult for we average folk to understand that the weekly jobless numbers continue to go down while the new jobs created numbers go down as well. There are not many mainstream outlets breaking it down.

The real picture includes: How many of the new jobs are part time or seasonal? How many of them are low paying? On the job creation side, how many are for skilled workers or college graduates? How many are temporary? What percentage of working age Americans are actually working? You see, the jobless numbers only include those who are receiving unemployment, not all those who have exhausted their benefits and given up. I wish the true picture was reported each week and not the government version of things. The fact that the middle class, the backbone of our society, is dwindling quickly should alarm everyone (even the rich). Certainly, everyone who considers themselves middle class should honestly assess their situation. Are you middle class in your heart and poverty level in reality? This is probably the case for many who have seen their disposable income shrinking daily. If you are one of those people, your participation by getting the information and going to the polls is critical. If not, you have no one to blame but yourself. Victoria Vaughn
