Sunday voting in Georgia: Voter convenience or a Democrat ploy?

Jim Galloway of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution newspaper reports that DeKalb County, Georgia is going to reserve a Sunday in October for voting:
Next month, for the first time in state history, some Georgia voters will be able to cast their ballots on a Sunday. In an effort to boost turnout, DeKalb County — the state’s richest source of Democratic votes — is about to name Oct. 26 as an extra day to vote, as well as a day of rest. Look for other counties to follow. Throughout this summer, we’ve pondered over how Democrats might boost their numbers to push their legacy candidates, Michelle Nunn and Jason Carter, over the finish line. They’re finally showing their hand.
One more voting day on Sunday is solely for the convenience of the voters, since three full weeks of early voting throughout Georgia does not give voters in DeKalb County enough time to vote. Right! Let's just skip the Democrat pretense!

DeKalb County is 55 percent black, which is much higher than the percentage for all of Georgia at 31 percent. A large majority of black voters vote Democrat no matter who is on the ballot, and the Democrat party leaders know this and try to leverage this fact anyway they can. But this is changing, although not fast enough. More and more black voters are waking up to the fact that Democrats take the black vote for granted, while conditions for the general black community continue to worsen under Democrat-sponsored policies. Another fact that's not mentioned in this Sunday accommodation for voters in DeKalb County is that faith and church are still very important in the lives of black people. Some of the largest gatherings of black people can be found on Sundays in church. As a result, encouraging people to vote can be more impactful during the church announcements, and by the way, you can vote right after church at the mall. How convenient! But not so fast! There are some other demographics about DeKalb County that might suggest that the expected Democrat voting windfall might fall short. Fully 88 percent of residents are high school graduates are higher. They ain't stupid! And 40 percent of the businesses are black-owned, while 37 percent of the businesses are owned by women. Business owners are not automatic Democrat votes because they live through the negative impact of Democrat policies everyday just to survive. And another thing! When did a person's last name give them a right to public office? Never! "Legacy candidates" is a good way to describe candidates with famous political last names (Nunn and Carter), but that's not a good reason to vote for someone regardless of their party affiliation. A sixteenth day of voting just so it can be on a Sunday also has a cost to the taxpayers, which no one is talking about. It's probably not a big amount, but eventually it adds up to real money. Our electoral process will survive attempts to skew the vote with Sunday voting, but if Chick-fil-A starts opening on Sundays, then we are doomed as a nation.
