Looking for and recognizing those Break Away Moments
Living in the days of beheadings by terrorists sent viral over YouTube, sold-out Black Masses in a taxpayer funded municipal-run venue, predictions of coming viruses capable of wiping out the entire human race, and with both public education and pop culture teaching upcoming generations there is no longer any need to respect human life, we all need the kind of refueling that comes from Break Away Moments.
Has anyone noticed that the most breath-taking Break Away Moments don’t flicker from the Boob Tube, are not apparent in town halls or at any other artificial source, but are only offered from God’s Little Green Acres, the one place place now being taken over by climate change alarmists? According to arrogant climate change alarmists like Al Gore, Maurice Strong and their latest heir apparent President Barack Obama, God didn’t do a good enough job in creating the universe, so they are jumping in to save it from inevitable collapse. Their unabashed arrogance is yet another prime reason to appreciate Break Away Moments. Seeing a pony suddenly break into running with seemingly effortless fleet across a farmer’s field as you’re driving along a lonely country road is a Break Away Moment, personalized just for you. Negative naysayers will say, “But the pony went back to standstill boredom in the same farmer’s field. The positive thinker knows “But for those precious Break Away moments, it was being there to see the magnificent sight of the pony free as the wind.” Last week’s harvest moon, a breath-taking sun-kissed yellow disc suspended over the night sky, was a Break Away Moment for any who spotted it.

Everyone knows that quiet moments for reflection are few and far between in tumultuous times like today’s. Nature is the artist painting a fall calendar for all to see. There is something that brings out the contemplative mood when those red and russet leaves drift, ever so lazily, from glorious autumn trees. Any day you venture out onto your back deck to gaze up at the pre-dawn stars, just before God’s orchestra breaks into its every morning birdsong, and there’s nothing but you, your conscience, your Creator and the sky in the wonderful silence, comes a supreme Break Away moment. The nothing-better-to-do trolls who afflict this and other websites are already switching on their iPads to kill off the messenger. They’ll leave dismal messages in the Comment Section that both time and money are running out, that for the little guy it’s all over, and there’s no coming back. So money to fix the leaking roof or to to stock up the larder is getting more scarce, the politicians getting bolder, pink icing cookies have been banned in public schools and the entire world fast becoming an ever more frightful place. Money would have to get a good deal more scarce for it to be anything like it was back in the days of the Great Depression. Other eras, starring King Herod, Pontius Pilate, Caligula’s horse joining the braying donkeys in the Roman senate, laurel leaf wreath-wearing Romans gorging on grapes and finger foods of their day while watching the gladiatorial games, World Wars 1 and 2 were definitely frightful places to be. Anyone who left childhood behind knows that the human survival politicians keep threatening to take away from the masses, requires more than access to food and water. Feeding the ever searching for meaning spirit, peace of mind, and keeping morale high are sorely needed too. The broken promises in the non-stop rhetoric of present day politicians, the long-winded and frustrating rants of the talking heads on television can get anybody down with black cloud depression that lasts long after their rhetoric and rants. As soon as you can, break away from anything that doesn’t improve your lot. Find a park bench where you can sit out from the frenzy of the day for awhile, turn up at your local library and borrow a book from its largely ignored shelves. Look for and recognize those Break Away moments as they are happening. There’s no charge for watching ponies with windswept manes running freely across farmers’ fields, no tax coming your way for watching the harvest moon or for being there to hear God’s orchestra announcing the beginning of yet another day. And there’s no price tag on the most precious gift you can give to others: sincerely offered fervent prayers. So even if you are temporarily flat broke broke and can’t come up with the money to buy someone close to you this year’s birthday present, give them the most meaningful gift of all; one that doesn’t require money. Give your loved ones and friends the gift that doesn’t require a postage stamps but comes, signed, sealed and delivered on angel wings. No matter how bad things are, you can put wings on your most fervent prayers and send them on to those who matter most to you. Remember that Break Away Moments surround you even in the darkest of times. All you have to do is recognize them. “Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you”-Matthew 7:7. A prayer from Canada Free Press to all who are down but not out, tired from the same old, same old politics, waiting for their next Break Away Moment, a prayer whose meaning is the same today as it was when it was found after St. Teresa’s death on a prayer card in her breviary circa 1582: Prayer:
“Let nothing disturb you; Let nothing frighten you. All things are passing. God never changes. Patience obtains all things. Nothing is wanting to him who possesses God. God alone suffices.”
