Bad news for Dems: New AP poll shows women leaning GOP for midterms

Yesterday, someone over at the Associated Press must have had a horrible day. We know this, because they had to reveal the results of their new AP-Gfk poll in an article that began with the following paragraph:

Two weeks before Election Day, most of the nation's likely voters now expect the Republican Party to take control of the U.S. Senate, according to a new Associated Press-GfK poll. And by a growing margin, they say that's the outcome they'd like to see.
If you pay any attention to the AP, you know that typing that must have driven them straight up the wall. The overall results of the poll can be seen in the chart below. As you can see, it's pretty much in line with all the other polling out there: As always, the AP does its best to remind everyone that people aren't particularly satisfied with the GOP either, but regardless, the Republicans are expanding their alleged lead. The really fun part is that the poll shows Dems losing ground because women - one for the voting blocs they think they can take for granted - have apparently shifted their support.
Women have moved in the GOP's direction since September. In last month's AP-GfK poll, 47 percent of female likely voters said they favored a Democratic-controlled Congress while 40 percent wanted the Republicans to capture control. In the new poll, the two parties are about even among women, 44 percent prefer the Republicans, 42 percent the Democrats.
Previously, female voters were thought to be the firewall that would save Democrats from the fact that they are deeply, deeply underwater with male voters. Unfortunately for them, it looks like they're goin to have to find another failsafe. Just a few days ago, The Politico reported findings similar to the AP poll:
In battleground states across the country, Obama is underwater with female voters — especially women unaffiliated with a political party — and it’s making it harder for Democrats to take advantage of the gender gap, according to public polling and Democratic strategists.
In short, the ridiculous "War on Women" meme is dying on the vine. The war's over, and it's starting to look like the Dems lost. If the polling turns out to be correct, they can thank their toxic President.
