Alaska's Mark Begich - Obama voter and pseudo-detractor

FINALLY! A vulnerable Dem admits voting for Obama ...who he says is 'irrelevant'

In the beginning, the Democrats' Kentucky senatorial candidate Alison Lundergan Grimes wouldn't say whether she voted for Obama.
Then, the problem began to spread. This strange memory loss seemed to be engulfing Democrats everywhere. First it hit their Georgia Senate candidate Michelle Nunn:

Then it was the Dems' West Virginia Senate candidate, Natalie Tennant, who seemed to have trouble uttering Barack Obama's name. Indeed, it seemed as though every Democrat in the 2014 election cycle might eventually succumb to this affliction. Thankfully, that's not the case. Reporters have finally found an embattled Democrat candidate that will admit voting for Barack Obama. Alaska's Mark Begich may be struggling to keep his job, but he has no problem acknowledging that he cast a ballot for the sitting President. Of course, he also says it doesn't matter who he voted for, since in his words, Obama is "irrelevant."
"I did, but that's irrelevant. The president's not relevant. He's gone in two years."
As you can imagine, that ringing endorsement caused many to wonder just how deep his support runs. Does he agree with the actions of the man for whom he voted? If he does, he certainly doesn't want you know it.
"Where I disagree with Obama is many places. Obama tried to take away our F-16s in Fairbanks. I disagreed with him. He wanted to fund the rebels in Syria. I disagreed with him. He wanted to do the gun control bill. I disagreed with him. I've disagreed plenty with Obama, but that's not an issue to me."
Unfortunately, any street cred Begich might earn from their many, many, disagreements over F-16s and guns is sharply undermined by a new CQ Roll Call study. Begich may "disagree" with the President, but he doesn't seem to have much trouble overcoming that. According to the report, in 2013 he voted in accordance with Obama's wishes 97% of the time. So... "I disagreed with him before I voted for him" seems to be the order of the day.
