Obama breaks the irony meter as he urges calm in Ferguson: 'we are a nation built on the rule of law'

If you watched President Obama's statement on the Ferguson decision last night, you were treated to a parade of irony. It began with an appeal for peace and calm, paired with the laughable assertion that “First and foremost, we are a nation built on the rule of law.”
Seriously. He said that. He really did.
  • The President who signed a bill authorizing the indefinite detention of U.S. citizens without trial said “First and foremost, we are a nation built on the rule of law.”
  • The President who is still - to this day - delaying the full implementation of his own signature law said “First and foremost, we are a nation built on the rule of law.”
  • The President whose Justice Department was trafficking illegal guns to Mexico said “First and foremost, we are a nation built on the rule of law.”
  • The President whose IRS was targeting conservatives said “First and foremost, we are a nation built on the rule of law.”
  • The President whose DOJ was targeting reporters said “First and foremost, we are a nation built on the rule of law.”

The President who - just last week - decided to bypass Congress, ignore separation of powers, contradict his own past guarantees and unilaterally undermine a whole swath of immigration law said “First and foremost, we are a nation built on the rule of law.” Unbelievable. This, he says, is "an issue for America." Here's the clip: The irony, however, did not stop there. Take a look at what was seen by viewers watching CNN's split screen broadcast. As Obama urges "peaceful protesters" not to throw bottles, burn buildings, and smash windows, "rioters" were doing exactly that. Could Obama look any more detatched?
