Pity-pot Perception

Pity-pot Perception
Self-pity is easily the most destructive of the non-pharmaceutical narcotics; it is addictive, gives momentary pleasure and separates the victim from reality.--John W. Garner (1912-2002) I choose to live in a present reality of constructive action, and envision a future of enlightened possibilities. So I have no time for race-baiters and grievance hustlers who obsess over a long gone past. Their efforts to stoke the fires of bitterness and hatred disgust me.
Picture this: a black police chief instigates a crack-down on the illegal sale of cigarettes in NYC, black business store owners ask the police to arrest a man selling cigarettes outside their stores ("These people pay their taxes; they pay for tobacco licenses. They wanted him gone"), and a black officer supervises the arrest. A pretty impressive display of racial equality wouldn't you say? Not to the pity-pot gang. To those in the pity-pot, all that they see, all that they can see, all that they want to see, is prejudice and racism, police brutality and "social injustice." Their warped and whiny perception of reality is largely shared and augmented by a liberal media that concurs with the shame-based narrative and pity-pot portrayal of America. It is, of course, regrettable that Eric Garner died (as a direct result of his resisting arrest), but the man was no saint, and he certainly was not choked to death. He had 31 previous arrests, and what killed this very unhealthy man was cardiac arrest, after he was in custody. Neither Eric Garner's nor Michael Brown's case would have ended the way they did if they had simply not resisted being arrested. Michael Brown punched the arresting officer in the face and tried to wrestle his gun away for God's sake! In my previous article I briefly discussed the "social injustice" suffered by the Irish over the centuries. The rape and pillage by Vikings, the ubiquitous dead laying where they fell during "The Great Famine," the Irish slaves in the New World, the prejudice in America, the long voyage to a prison colony on the other side of the world (Australia), where according to a Rev. Johnson they arrived "wretched, naked, filthy, dirty, lousy, and many of them utterly unable to stand, to creep, or even to stir hand or foot." You want to whine about past grievances I'll go tit for tat with you and then some, boyo.

The Irish in America did not stew in the pity-pot. They took what jobs they could and made the best of it.

The Irish in America did not stew in the pity-pot. They took what jobs they could and made the best of it. For my father's family the coal mines of Pennsylvania were a step up from what they left behind in County Mayo, Ireland. Through God's grace, talent and pluck, my grandfather Michael and three of his brothers were able to leave the coal mines behind as well. My mother's family (from County Tyrone) experienced an even more impressive rags-to-riches story. And they did not make successful lives for themselves by whimpering and whining and blaming mean ol' America for their woes. They grabbed the opportunities that a free, capitalist society in America presented them with, and they made the most of it. Fortunately, they did not have the "help" of liberals chaining them to "the soft bigotry of low expectations," ("Oh you poor dears, you're just not up to it are you? Here, let massa government do it for you--now isn't that better?"). I could go on, but I would only end up telling you how I really feel about America's arrogant, back-stabbing, lying leftist leeches--but I already used up this year's quota of cuss words in my last article. So I'll leave it at that.
