The only fact in the climate control debate is that the truth doesn't matter

On a CBC show with Peter Mansbridge last week U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon chastised Canada for not doing enough to prevent climate change.

Unbelievably he had high praise for Saudi Arabia who he claims is moving away from fossil fuels. He furnished scant proof of this but there is plenty of proof they are heavily involved in OPEC's efforts to drive down world oil prices to force oilsands and shale-oil companies out of business. He also had high praise for China, the world's largest emitter, and for the farcical "breakthrough" deal between China and the U.S. where China only committed to stop growing its emissions total by 2030 while continuing to build new coal-fired plan power plants at the rate of one a week for the next 15 years. Canada and Australia were singled out for criticism even though the two countries contributions to global carbon emissions are both under 2% of the worldwide total, a fact conveniently overlooked by the Secretary-General. The only fact in the climate control debate is that the truth doesn't matter. The "science" supporting this theory has crumbled and the debate is far more about the politics of global warming than science. It is much more about the agenda of socialist politicians, alarmist scientists and UN bureaucrats. For example, a recent UN five-year assessment report admitted carbon dioxide has less effect on global temperatures than previously thought and that the sun is a bigger driver of climate change than man-made carbon dioxide emissions which are but a tiny fraction of total emissions. Environmentalists, green politicians and UN diplomats are more committed to symbolism than substance. The weaker the science, the louder their predictions of impending doom. Stephen Harper is right in his view that our commitment to reduction in greenhouse gas emissions cannot be at the expense of Canadian jobs.
