Obama's debate rescuer

Teammates: Chuck Schumer fistbumps Candy Crowley and tells her 'job well done'

Chuck Schumer is nothing if not loyal to his troops, so he's not about to let Candy Crowley be shoved out the door at CNN without giving her a congratulatory fist bump for doing her job - which we all know is to help Democrats stay in office. And of course, we all know she never came through for the Democrats more than when she backed up Obama's Benghazi nonsense in his third debate with Mitt Romney. Schumer couldn't gush enough:

Remember, this came after Romney absolutely cleaned Obama's clock in the first debate, one in which Obama phoned it in and appeared to think it was beneath him to even have to show up. That was affecting the polls in a big way, and while the second debate hadn't been quite as one-sided, Obama clearly needed a big win in the third, foriegn policy-focused debate. And when he started tripping up over the Benghazi timeline, and Romney went in for the kill, it was Candy to the rescue! Here's the infamous debate clip: And here's Crowley admitting later on that she had no idea what she was talking about when she intervened in the debate and rescued Obama from the truth: No wonder Schumer fist-bumped her. Not only did she wrongly back up Obama's nonsense - which is not her job as a debate moderator, even if he's right, which he decidedly wasn't - but she took Obama's cue when he demanded she help him even more by repeating the ill-founded affirmation of his nonsense. This is a demonstration that Candy Crowley is a shameless Democrat partisan, but that is hardly a revelation. What it really shows us is that the media-moderated debate is a sham, and it needs to be eliminated. Let candidates question each other with a guy who sit there and keeps the time, and enforces some basic rules, but does not presume to be a participant in the discussion as these media poseurs always want to do. Without Crowley bailing Obama out, Romney would have won that debate and just might have won the presidency. That'll get you a fist bump all right. Maybe it will get her a job at MSNBC or with the DNC next. Not that there's really a distinction to be made between the two.
