When Facts Get in the Way

- Thomas Richard When you don't "negotiate with facts," you're left to make them up. In what can only be described as a head-scratching nightmare of dystopian proportions, the UN socialist party, er, UN climate conference agreed to free up at least $60 million to help poor (read: third-world) countries adapt to "droughts, floods, and other effects of global warming." All of which have been happening on planet Earth since the oceans and land masses formed.

The money will go to building sea walls to fend against non-existent rising tides and other boondoggles. The initial thoughts that popped into my head were the hundreds of thousands of people dying from disease and starvation. Wouldn't this money be better spent on something that's tangible and knowable and not something still an unproven theory? Maybe finding a vaccine for HIV that has decimated Africa? Sixty million dollars can also buy a lot of meals on wheels, seeds, teachers, doctors, maybe string some power lines to those still living in the dark. Even the interest alone on that much cash is enough to re-elect Obama four years hence. Because of unprecedented urbanization in Nevada, specifically Las Vegas, Lake Mead is at an all-time low. Only die-hard enviro-whackos (RFK jr) are blaming it on global warming, but in developed countries such as the U.S., we understand that the more you use, the more you lose. And where does the $60 mil come from: "The fund is derived from a 2 percent levy on offset investments that industrial nations make on green projects in the developing world. The negotiators have been discussing other ways to ramp up the fund into the billions." Does anybody really think this money won't be misspent, misallocated, and that corruption and scandal will end up being a 60 minutes segment exposing the UN-backed Adaptation Fund? Well, maybe not 60 minutes; more likely 20/20 with John Stossell. Given an actual vote, wouldn't the people of planet Earth choose to help feed and heal those who need it the most? The UN does NOT speak for the world's population. The UN is a self-perpetuating machine fed by cash and contemptible behavior. Gore said at the Poznan conference that this and other challenges "affect the survival of human civilization." Yes, Gore is also a drama queen. Before getting two standing ovations, he railed against the media's focus on celebri-gossip. It seems that when the spotlight isn't on his bountiful frame, Gore is in a positive snit. In a little over a month, Obama will take the oath of office as well as the American taxpayer's checkbook. We also understand in the U.S. another thing: you get what you pay for. We have no one to blame but ourselves for sitting idly by while institutions that long ago should have been shuttered garner unprecedented power without accountability. No one elected these people to the UN. They were appointed. They speak only for themselves and ensuring their survival. It's time for us to speak up, America. And that goes for the rest of planet Earth as well. Thomas Richard runs the non-profit, non-partisan site Climate Change Fraud, which gives voice to the other side of the global warming debate. For 15 years he has freelanced as a web design consultant when he’s not debunking the common misconceptions of climate change.
