Visit Mongolia in the UK this May

Mongolia exhibition, Suffolk, UK May to June

Mongolia in east-central Asia forms the backdrop of a fascinating exhibition in Suffolk this May.
John Foley, owner of Imagine Gallery, in his search for distinctive, unique artworks, has brought together a renowned French sculptress and an acclaimed photographer from Israel who have one thing in common. Mongolia. This groundbreaking exhibition features works by sculptress Sandra Courlivant from Nantes and Israeli photographer Asher Svidensky in ‘One Journey’ at Imagine Gallery in Long Melford. The exhibition runs from May 3 to June 7. “Sandra, who is renowned for her equine sculptures, had never sculpted a Mongolian horse and so it became inevitable that when time and opportunity allowed this wife and mother would leave her farm in a remote hamlet near Nantes to visit Mongolia where she arranged to go horse riding,” explains John Foley, owner of Imagine Gallery. “It was a journey that changed her life and her art. On her return, for the first time, she sculpted a person, a single child on a horse.” He adds: “Asher Svidensky started his career as a war photographer with the Israeli Army and although many of the photographs he took then have received acclaim they were not what he really desired to be making; it was a job not career. He wanted to achieve something different. All of his life he had wanted to visit Mongolia where his dream was to photograph the hunters with eagles. Eventually, a year ago, this dream became a reality. He travelled to Mongolia where he visited and photographed the festival of Eagle Hunters. He was living the dream but something was missing, he felt that he was just re-creating the same scenes that had fed his imagination, he wanted more, he wanted to tell a story. So he travelled further into a more remote region and found that story which forms the basis of the exhibition.”
