Whether it's Looney Tunes' "Gremlins from the Kremlin", Donald Duck doing his version of Spike Jones' "The Fuhrer's Face," or Seth Rogen and James Franco's portrayal of Kim Jong Un as a margarita swilling Katy Perry fan, I've always been a big fan of comedy that mocks America's enemies. Frankly, I don't think there's enough of it. Maybe it's because everyone's so touchy, or maybe it's because the politically correct left wants us to identify with our foes. Whatever the reason, making fun of our would-be killers has become something of a lost comedic art.
Perhaps that's why the internet is freaking out about this "ISIS recruitment ad" that appeared on SNL this weekend.
Dan and I have conferred, and we think this is really pretty funny. The phenomenon of western college girls joining ISIS is one of those bizarre, terrifying, and ultimately insane things that begs for parody. The idea of presenting such a disastrous choice as a feel-good "Dad sends his daughter off to college" moment - something you'd regularly see in a cell phone ad - is spectacular.
Yet it seems that this clip has much of the internet in a tizzy. The left is screaming "racism" where there is none, and the right is shouting "anti-Americanism" where it's equally absent.
We think people need to lighten up and get the joke.
What do you guys think?
