...But don't undermine our deal....Huh.

Kerry: Our Iran deal is not 'legally binding' so we don't need Congressional consent

First, watch this clip. Then, we'll talk.

Huh? Where to begin? First of all, "the Senators' letter" doesn't assert that Kerry's plan will be legally binding. In fact, it makes the case that exactly the opposite is true. The letter explains, correctly, that the agreement the administration is negotiating will have no legal standing without being a congressionally-ratified treaty. It simply spells out the constitutional realities that the Obama administration faces. The second he's out of office, his incredibly ill-conceived "deal" isn't worth the paper it's printed on. ...And despite his "disbelief," Kerry basically admits that they're correct. More importantly, if they're not even trying for a legally binding agreement, why are they doing it at all? Kerry claims that we're chasing a plan that "will have in it a capacity for enforcement." Except, there's no way you will ever be able to trust Iran to expose themselves to any kind of transparency. Since it's not legally binding, the only "enforcement" that will be possible is to ignore the deal exists in the first place. Kerry's basically arguing that we're going to let Iran move further along the path to a nuclear bomb, while receiving nothing in return except the false pretense that there's some kind of "enforcement" angle at work. Then, when the Mullahs inevitably refuse to comply with the non-existent "enforcement," we'll all just walk away. That will be easy since no one was ever bound to the terms of the deal in the first place. So to sum up: We get nothing, Iran gets breathing room for their nuke program, and it's an outrage that Republican Senators aren't willing to just shut up and let that happen. Oh, and the United States doesn't have any diplomatic relations with this terrorist state, but we're negotiating with them somehow. No diplomacy, though. Gotcha. It all makes perfect sense now.
