Somewhere, beyond police unions, cop blockers and mutual mistrust is a common ground where public safety and civil liberties can not only complement, but also strengthen each other.

A Cap Black Police Reform Suggestion

Just posted on Face Book: Policing, in my opinion, will have to change its stance on citizen's complying. While the officer feels he's maintaining law & order, the citizen often feels he's being demeaned & humiliated, as if he, the citizen, is now an inferior being.

Toss race into the scenario & things can unravel at warp speed! This era of American isn't as compliant as his forbearers, of any color. This doesn't make him a criminal. It makes him the consequence of growing up in a society which tells him he's free. So long as the officer doesn't catch the citizen in the commission of a felony or serious misdemeanor, the citizen has every right to question the stop and its probable cause. Conversely, the citizen must recognize the perilous position of the officer. So long as he doesn't legitimately feel the officer isn't attempting to harm him, he shouldn't escalate the encounter. In Black communities, it's clear that until we start hitting the streets ourselves, we empower racial con men like Mitch Landrieu to destroy NOPD ( the New Orleans police department ) AND treat those Blacks ACTUALLY opposing crime out of their hearts & pockets like, sharecroppers & slaves, respectively. I'm a police supporter AND a supporter of the hostage citizen always being targeted by thugs & bureaucrats. The irony I ALWAYS promote is the officer AND hostage citizen are ON.THE.SAME.SIDE.! The above Face Book post is the middle path in police/community relations which has been on my mind for years as I deal with this third rail of governance. Somewhere, beyond police unions, cop blockers and mutual mistrust is a common ground where public safety and civil liberties can not only complement, but also strengthen each other.
