"You constantly talk about running an open and transparent government. Now is your chance to live up to your words.”

Any Deal for Hydro One Should be Vetted by Financial Accountability Office and Auditor General to Ensure a Fair Price

QUEEN’S PARK – John Yakabuski, PC Energy Critic, today asked the Minister of Energy to clearly tell Ontarians what the government’s plans are for Hydro One as the taxpayers own it and have paid for it through their electricity bills. Yakabuski stated that the proceeds of any sale shouldn’t be used to “dig the government out of the fiscal mess you’ve created. You constantly talk about running an open and transparent government. Now is your chance to live up to your words.”

Additionally, Yakabuski said that there is concern about ensuring the government gets a fair price for Hydro One. As a result, any deal to sell a portion of Hydro One should be vetted before a sale is finalized. “The people are worried that because of your desperate need for cash you will sell off Hydro One at far below market value…will you commit today…that before any deal is signed for any portion of Hydro One that it will be vetted by both the Financial Accountability Officer and Auditor General?”, Yakabuski asked.
