After Rand's challenge, Wasserman Schultz says abortion is a minor issue that won't sway voters

For the last two decades, the Democrats have had one, constant, unwavering mantra. When it came to killing unborn babies, Republicans were on the wrong side of history.
Republicans, they said, were a gang of radicals trying to undermine women's unassailable right to "reproductive health care." Never mind the fact that almost every poll shows that the party of late-term and partial-birth abortion was not in accordance with the wishes of most Americans. Republicans had to be stopped, so abortion became a cornerstone issue for the Democrats. Then, Rand Paul dared to demand that Debbie Wasserman Schultz tell us all when she thinks life begins. This put her in the uncomfortable position of being forced to face reality. Suddenly, people were actually asking her real, substantive, questions about abortion - and she can't answer them. Remember, Rand Paul asked her "when does life begin," and does she think it's "OK to kill a 7-pound baby in the uterus?"

So far, Wasserman Schultz has refused to answer either of those specifics. The only thing she's said is "I support letting women and their doctors make this decision without government getting involved. Period." So, on CNN, wolf Blitzer asked about her battle with Rand Paul. Her answer is telling: Note that again, the DNC chairwoman refuses outline ANY restrictions that she will support. She deflects, and tries to turn the situation back against Senator Paul. This, obviously, is because the hardcore leftists who would actually vote for someone like Wasserman Schultz won't tolerate any restrictions - and she knows that everyone else disagrees that stance. More importantly, it's clear that she's desperate to take the spotlight off this issue. Since she can't give an honest answer to the abortion question without alienating the vast majority of Americans, she's decided that abortion no longer matters all that much.
“At the end of the day, it’s unlikely that voters are going to be deciding who they’re going to vote for president and whether a candidate has their back on this issue. It’s more going to be on jobs and the economy.”
...And there you have it. That's what it sounds like when the GOP takes an issue away from the opposition leader. According to Wasserman Schultz, 30 years of left-wing campaigning on abortion was all for naught. Abortion is no longer a centerpiece issue for Democrat candidates. It's a minor side issue that doesn't really sway voters. Now, whenever the press asks a Republican candidate about abortion, this should be the stock answer: "Well, according to the leader of the Democratic Party, voters don't really care about this issue. She says this because she knows that the voters disagree with her party's extreme ideology." Then, he or she should demand that their opponent answer the same two questions that Wasserman Schultz is dodging. "When does my opponent think life begins," and "does my opponent think it's OK to kill a 7-pound baby in the uterus?" The press will always be hostile. Use it to your advantage.
