'Clinton Cash' author targeting Jeb Bush next - Good for him
Earlier today, Dan wrote about the Clintons' latest problems stemming from their finances and, specifically, from donations to the Clinton Foundation.
Obviously, it's been a huge story for a couple of weeks now and it threatens to completely derail Hillary's already shaky presidential camping. Most (but not all) of the recent revelations can be traced directly to one source - Peter Schweizer's forthcoming book “Clinton Cash: The Untold Story of How and Why Foreign Governments and Businesses Helped Make Bill and Hillary Rich.” The book chronicles the various donations - and possible State Department quid-pro-quos - that allegedly helped take Hillary from "dead broke" to the upper echelons of the 1% in just a few years. As it continues to do damage to their favorite family, the Clinton faithful have gone into crisis mode, calling the book a hatchet job and a political hit piece by an opportunistic author. We wonder if they'll be singing the same tune now that Schweizer will be targeting Jeb Bush.... As Bloomberg's Joshua Green reports:

“What we’re doing is a drill-down investigation of Jeb’s finances similar to what we did with the Clintons in terms of looking at financial dealings, cronyism, who he’s been involved with,” Schweizer told me on Wednesday. “We’ve found some interesting things.” Schweizer says he and a team of researchers have been poring over Bush’s financial life for about four months. Among other things, they’re scrutinizing various Florida land deals, an airport deal while Bush was governor that involved state funds, and Chinese investors in Bush’s private equity funds (something I wrote about for Bloomberg last year).
Look, there's no doubt that Schweizer is striking while the political iron is hot. He's a writer, and he wants to make his money while the candidates of the 2016 election are still relevant. It's clear he's in the money hunt. However, that shouldn't necessarily be a condemnation. Personally, I'd like to see someone digging this deep into every candidate on both sides of the aisle. We've already seen what happens when a largely un-vetted newcomer skates by on charm, speaking ability, and a nice smile. Just imagine what would have happened if the media had been as tenacious with our favorite community organizer as Schweizer is being with Hillary and Jeb. As long as Schweizer's facts and research are sound? Good for him. The more we know about these people, the better. It's time to make sure we never have another Barack Obama skate past the mainstream vetting process - no matter what party they call home.
