An established professional artist is opening her studio during Cheltenham Open Studios in the UK between June 13 and June 21.
Louise Millin Inchley, known as ‘Milli’in the art world, lives and paints in Cheltenham and will be opening her house at 16 Francis Street. “I don't have a studio here yet, it will be phase 2 of the build,” says Louise, who with architect husband Andrew, has embarked on extensively renovating this former grocery shop in a typical Georgian terrace, close to Bath Road. “I currently use one of our bedrooms to work in.” This is a chance to see the work of an up and coming artist who only recently has had one of her French market paintings highly commended for the SAA Artist of the Year 2015. This will be exhibited at the Business Design Centre in London from July 23 to July 25. “Working in oils, the focus of my art is people and atmospheric lighting in street scenes and interior settings,” explains Louise, who runs workshops and conducts demonstrations at art societies. “I will be exhibiting oil paintings. There will also be canvas prints and greeting cards for sale. I take inspiration from my local surroundings in Cheltenham as well as other cities and destinations from my travels. The focus of my exhibition is oil paintings of Cheltenham, London, Nice and Monaco and other travel destinations. I love the South of France. The light is so wonderful there. A number of my recent paintings are of Bath Road, Cheltenham, inspired by my surroundings.” My home is a typical Cheltenham Georgian terrace house close to the Bath Road. A former grocery shop it had been rented out for 20 years and in need of a complete renovation. My architect husband Andrew Inchley of Yiangou architects and I have recently renovated our home, adding a contemporary extension. An ideal space to hang paintings!

Louise attended Cheltenham and Exeter Colleges of Art where she gained an art foundation course and degree in art. She then worked as a draughtsperson and interior designer for architects at home and in Singapore. It was upon her return from Singapore 10 years ago that painting became far more than just a hobby. She studied under the tutelage of the internationally acclaimed artist Trevor Waugh and now paints full-time.
