Obama won't let a crisis go to waste, jumps right in with the gun control nonsense

Maybe my memory is too generous, but it seems there was a time when Barack Obama would have had enough self-awareness to at least wait a few days before turning a massive tragedy into an excuse to push a political agenda. I don't remember him using the Newtown shooting to start yapping about gun control less than 24 hours after it happened.

But in the waning days of your presidency, maybe you figure, why not? Go big or go home. If you don't turn the horrific deaths of nine people into something that's all about you and your political agenda, what the heck are you in politics for? First of all, what a load of crap this is. Here is a list of mass shootings that occurred in Europe alone, with just as many in the past 15 years as we've seen in the United States. Obama is just making crap up when he says things like that. Just as important as his words, though, are his tone and his facial expressions. Watch and listen closely when he makes the statement at the beginning of the video about a killer being able to get a gun. The whole message he's trying to convey is one of disgust with other politicians he holds responsible for, damn it, not listening to him the last time he tried to exploit a mass killing to push for gun control. He sounds exasperated and indignant, not because these people died, but because his agenda not already being in place is clearly the reason it happened. This is beneath contempt. He might as well say, "Look at all these people who got killed because I didn't get my way." Listen further to the way he gives very brief lip service to the importance of mourning and healing, then launches into his real passion, which is the need for the American people to "come to grips" with the need for the gun control agenda Obama wants. There's a certain conceit among the political class to think that anything that ever goes wrong in life must be the result of a policy decision. They really think government policy decides the fate of all people and all things. A guy filled with hatred and rage kills nine people? It must be because our policies weren't right! They really think every decision and every action of every individual stems from what they do or don't do. Some people become evil for reasons that had nothing to do with government, and there was never anything government could have done to keep them from being evil - nor from acting on their evil impulses, at least without curtailing the rights of every citizen in a way that would exact a much more onerous price on society at large. I am not a big fan of the idea that every major tragedy requires some sort of "healing" statement from the nation's top politician, but at least a president who can do that well understands that a tragedy befalling other pepole is not about him. Obama thinks everything is about him, and what he wants, and him getting his way. He is the most petulant politician I've ever seen, and that's saying something. I hate to jump into the politics of this so soon after the incident, but Obama's words are so detestable that they simply must be condemned in the strongest terms. Mr. President, we'd rather hear nothing from you than hear crap like this. Shut up.
