Trump vs. Ramos Bout

You know what, I thought my frenzy point for irking with madness had just about reached its limits of confinement when I saw Barack Obama eagerly shaking the bloodied hands of Cuban dictators Fidel and Raul Castro – the entire charade followed by the idiot John Kerry’s ceremony raising the American flag at the just re-opened Cuban embassy in Havana, not much after the jackass [Kerry] had virtually given Iran a free pass to becoming a nuke state, while Iranians lolled to the chants of “death to America” - Yes, I thought I just could not or would not let myself be dragged to such levels of derangement, to where my delusional political inanity, would impair my good judgment in realizing that none of it was really worth it – none whatsoever. But, dammit, it happened again. It happened again on Tuesday, August 25th, at the press conference held by republican presidential contender Donald Trump in Dubuque, Iowa, and his duel with Spanish broadcasting network Univision’s anchorman Jorge Ramos
Well, just in case you happened to have missed the colorful feud that took place on live TV between Ramos and Trump, let’s just say that Ramos -- the renowned, if yet, amply disliked Spanish broadcaster -- was ejected, or escorted out, from the press conference, after pervasively interrupting Mr. Trump, bombastically dislodging a blustering diatribe of immigration questions, all the while as he was repeatedly told by Mr. Trump to shut-up. In the end, Ramos was advised to ‘go back to Univision’ just before he was led out of the room, escorted by who appeared to be one of Trump’s praetorian guards. After a while, Ramos was eventually allowed to rejoin the conference, which led to another sparring match between the two contenders. Now, I took to writing this article not only because I think the entire Ramos incident is jammed-packed with abounding ignominies all of which deserve immediate clarification; as I do believe some core truths, embedded in this whole event, have been majorly distorted, and, by God, I am not ready, not yet anyways, to just let it all ride into oblivion without setting the record straight, as if I did, I would be treacherously condoning some of the gross misrepresentations that were made along the way. Why don’t we just start by telling the blithering idiot who compared Jorge Ramos to Walter Cronkite, that this is one of the most shortsighted, thickheaded, travesties I have ever heard – a most ridiculous and ludicrous comment if I ever heard one. First and foremost, Mr. Cronkite was, by all accounts, one of the most prolific anchormen in the history of American journalism, often known as “the most trusted man in America”, while Jorge Ramos is, as far as I am concerned, a run-of-the-mill, over-rated, arrogant small-time reporter, biased and untrusted by many. That much for the outlandish association. Spare me, please, the stupid analogy.

I consider Mr. Ramos and his entire Univision tribe, just a swarm of unqualified misfits

My follow-up contention goes to all that has been made of the fact that Jorge Ramos is an influential voice for all Latinos. Again, spare me, please, the insidious inference. I am a Cuban-American naturalized U.S. citizen, one of the many who fled the communist island of Cuba shortly after its takeover, some 50 plus years back, by one of the most evil dictatorships ever – the Castro regime - whereas, I can implicitly assure anyone who lays eyes on this article, that I, as part of the Hispanic-American universe living in the US, will never ever be influenced by anyone of Mr. Ramos’ stature and neither will many other fellow Cuban-Americans that I know. As a point of reference, I consider Mr. Ramos and his entire Univision tribe, just a swarm of unqualified misfits, whose fame and fortune and that of their network were ill-fatedly built, for the most part, on the misfortunes of a mass exodus of Cubans, who, together with a wave of illegal Mexican immigrants, made it possible for Univision’s ratings to grow as much as to afford the network to pay Ramos in the millions of dollars, thus the later disdainful campaign to nurture all the illegal immigrants now eroding into our nation’s economic wellbeing. The next point that I want to bring out deals with yet another travesty – one heedfully seeded in a culture of misinformation, the by-product of the prevailing illiteracy now plaguing our nation, shamefully akin to a lion’s share of the population. I refer to the unprecedented assumption by many in mainstream America, that all Latinos are of Mexican descent. We are not, folks. The word ‘Latino’ is an ethnonym that takes its roots from the words Latin American – a geographical region that comprises twenty sovereign states with approximately 600 million inhabitants in an area of more than seven million square miles extending from Mexico in the southern border of the United States to the southernmost tip of South America and the Caribbean. So please, folks, the next time you see a three-man band with a guitar on-hand and big moustaches à la Fox’s Geraldo Rivera, serenading to the tune of “Cielito Lindo”, remember please, we were not all born in Mexico and neither were the nineteen other varieties of Latin Americans comprising the ‘Latino’ world – one, which Mr. Ramos would give anything to have a clout on if given the opportunity, as much as that opportunity will never come to fruition. According to U.S. Census Bureau population estimates as of July 1, 2013, there were roughly 54 million Hispanics living in the United States, representing approximately 17% of the total US population, making people of Hispanic origin the nation's largest ethnic or race minority. Again, folks, the word Hispanic is another ethnonym for people of country heritage that speak the Spanish language – all Latinos have a Hispanic origin but not all Hispanics are Latinos. So, for Ramos’ cronies to even suggest that Mr. Ramos has some sort of sway on the Hispanic population of our country, is an elusive and sinful misnomer, to say the least – the epitome of wishful thinking at its best. It is estimated that 13.1 million Latinos will turn out to vote in 2016. Latinos are also predicted to make up 10.4 percent of the electorate next year. While, admittedly, Republicans will have a tough mountain to climb, knowing that the party’s nominee selected to run for president in 2016 will need more than 40% of the Latino vote to win the presidency, as high as almost half in some of the key battleground states, the fact remains that Mr. Ramos’ assertion during his feud with Mr. Trump, alleging the latter would never win the Latino vote due to his position on immigration – that vouching for the return of 11+ million illegals to be sent back to their homelands, was outlandishly arrogant, again, rooted in Ramos’ haughty outlook of himself as somewhat of a Messianic prophet on behalf of the Latino population of the U.S. It will probably serve us all well to remind Mr. Ramos that out of his 11+ million illegal protégés, none, not one, is eligible to vote in the 2016 elections and, of the 13.1 million that are, in fact, eligible to vote, many are going to vote for whichever presidential candidate is elected to run for the GOP party, considering the fact, like I stated earlier, that there are plenty of other Latino voters out there, that are neither Mexican, nor are they keen on allowing illegal immigrants to stay in the U.S., nor do they care what Mr. Ramos’ advocates one way or the other. This brings me to the main issue at center stage of the entire controversy surrounding the confrontation between Trump and Ramos, to wit, the high priority immigration issue itself. Let me preface the points which I will try to make by reciting some statistics rather relevant to this issue. First, let me just say, that in 2012, there were approximately 5.9 Million illegal immigrants in the US that came from Mexico, which made up for approximately 52% of all illegal immigrants in the nation. It should then come as no surprise to anyone that Mr. Ramos, a diehard Mexican himself, would be so adamantly opposed to Trump’s proposed mass evacuation of illegal immigrants. Vis-à-vis, I can almost envision an immigration reform led by Jorge Ramos; one which would probably turn the U.S., into a guaranteed safe-haven for all illegals, including but not limited to some criminal repeat offenders, such as the illegal Mexican immigrant and five-time convicted felon, who senselessly shot to death Kathryn Steinle as she peacefully strolled with her father in San Francisco’s Pier 4. I can also see a Jorge Ramos immigration reform encouraging an open-border policy with Mexico, bound to turn the entire U.S., into a sanctuary state for illegal immigrants to be shielded from being deported by our U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement [ICE] agency. Once we understand where Mr. Ramos’ mind is, it becomes rather easy to understand his obvious rage with Mr. Trump and/or any other American standing in his way to keeping all these illegal immigrants roaming free in our homeland. Besides the obvious differences in their views regarding the very much politically charged issue of immigration what was really embarrassing in the Ramos vs. Trump exchange last Tuesday, was the way that Mr. Ramos conducted himself in the altercation, denoting a shameful lack of professionalism. It seemed to me rather obvious that Mr. Ramos violated all vital canons of journalism such as is that of maintaining an unbiased and impartial view of the issues. As general consensus now has it, Mr. Ramos’ unrestrained show of disrespect, was one more native to a radical activist, more so than a presumed anchorman of Ramos’ stature. Admittedly, I am not one of Mr. Trump's, most devoted fanatics, as well as I don’t think that, all things considered, the return of 11+ million immigrants, would or could be, in and of itself, a logistically feasible occurrence. Irrespective of the cost for such a magnanimous undertaking, I find that the actual round-up efforts to converge all these people in order to send them back, seems like a practical impossibility of sorts. However, I do have to admit that I am all for Mr. Trump’s immigration agenda, were it at all plausible. Mind you, unlike Mr. Ramos’ blind nationalistic prejudice to protect and defend all Mexican natives, regardless, I, on the other hand, am all for the deportation of thousands of so-called late-fleeing Cubans, who, unlike their predecessors before them, did not come to the U.S., seeking political refuge rightfully earning them a right to stay, but instead were all about getting away from the deplorable economic conditions now prevalent in the enslaved Caribbean island – a byproduct of half a century of communist oppression. And, while there is nothing wrong with the inherent aspirations of seeking a better future, there is, on the other hand, everything wrong in the way that the U.S., has harbored these late-wave of Cubans, allowing them to stay and giving them an unjust priority over hundreds of thousands of other immigrants around the world, just as deserving, who have been gingerly waiting forever for the privilege given this cadre of opportunistic parasites. In closing, I just want to congratulate Mr. Trump for his handling of this arrogant activist Jose Ramos the way he did. Kudos to you, Mr. Trump, for letting him have it. In any event, I have not much left to say, but to urge Mr. Jorge Ramos that maybe it is time for him to go back to his beloved Mexico in order to continue with his activist crusade, except that this time around, I urge him to do so by persuading his own president Enrique Peña Nieto to rally behind the U.S., in stopping the mass exodus of Mexicans coming illegally into our country. This is as good a time as any to remind Mr. Ramos that this mass exodus is but the byproduct of his Mexican government’s out-of-control corruption, prevalent in all their administrations for God knows how long – an out-of-control corruption which has persistently led to the prevalent state of impoverishment in the Mexican nation which, in turn, has led Mexicans to look upon the American Dream as their ultimate source of motivation and hope, albeit the principal reason for the mass exodus and our illegal immigration crisis. Perhaps it is time, Mr. Ramos, that you encourage your president, Mr. Peña Nieto and his administration to start re-building your own country and your own Mexican Dream, at which time, probably, most all desirous to leave will opt to stay and all who Mr. Trump wants to send back will look forward to do so, as we, in our United States of America, can peacefully go back to the business of attending to our native citizens, not having to deal any more with an immigration reform as a priority issue in our presidential elections. May God save America!
