Trump signs pledge not to run third-party

Just announced. There's a 30-minute video of his announcement on his Facebook page, which I haven't found a way to embed yet but you can see it here. There's a 30-minute video of his announcement on his Facebook page. In case you're wondering, because I know you are: "No, I see no circumstances in which I would throw out that pledge."

Obviously a Trump third-party campaign would be the worst thing that could possibly happen, and it might be the only way Hillary could win the White House. Remember, no Clinton can ever win without help from a Perot. Now let's consider: Would Trump pay any real price if he broke the pledge later on? Almost certainly not. His supporters would accept almost any pretext for breaking the pledge and would support him all the more. It wouldn't be enough to elect him as a third-party candidate, but there's no chance of that happening anyway. So why not break the pledge? Unless you think his whole candidacy has been a conspiracy to elect Hillary in the first place (and no I do not think that), there is really no reason for him to break it. Yes, his supporters would forgive him, but it wouldn't get him to the White House, so why do it? Also, call me crazy, but I actually thinks he means what he's saying here. He signed the pledge not because he is willing to be bound by a piece of paper per se, but because it's consistent with what he's already decided to do. As you go, here's a question to chew on: I know all about the previous liberal positions, the praise of Nancy Pelosi, the contributions to Hillary . . . all that. Usually when a liberal Democrat becomes a Republican and starts talking like a conservative, we love it. Phil Gramm. Richard Shelby. These guys were conservative heroes because they jumped ship to our side. Why isn't that true of Trump?
