CCRKBA Chief Rips President For Politicizing UCC Tragedy

BELLEVUE, WA – The head of the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms today ripped into President Barack Obama for acknowledging that he wants to “politicize” the shooting at Oregon’s Umpqua Community College, calling it “a deplorable exploitation of a tragedy to push an anti-rights agenda.”

CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb said Obama’s remarks during a Thursday press briefing were in extremely poor taste. “Our thoughts and prayers should be with the families whose loved ones were injured and especially those who lost loved ones,” Gottlieb said. “Students died and the president immediately wants to use their deaths for disingenuous and ineffective gun policies. “Obama never talks about all the gun-related murders in his home town of Chicago with all its impediments to lawful gun ownership,” the veteran gun rights advocate continued. “If more gun laws were effective in reducing gun violence and mass shootings as the president suggests, Chicago would be the model. But as data shows, that simply isn’t the case. President Obama never allows facts to get in the way of his anti-gun rights agenda.” Gottlieb recently hosted the 30th annual Gun Rights Policy Conference, where some people discussed active shooter situations. It was among the most heavily-attended events in the three-decade history of the conference. Alluding to the president’s penchant toward gun control, Gottlieb noted there is always an ironic after-effect of such pronouncements. “Every time Obama attacks guns and gun owners in his attempts to pass new restrictive gun control laws,” Gottlieb observed, “all he ends up doing is causing gun sales to increase. Unwittingly, Obama has been the best thing for gun sales during the past seven years.”
