All the huffing and puffing about the latest political wunderkind-Michael Ignatieff- who is going to solve all of our problems is enough to make the Gods laugh themselves into a fit. Iggy is even being hailed in some quarters as Canada's answer to Barack Obama.
There will probably be a federal election before the year is out, and millions of otherwise sensible people will troop to the polling stations believing, despite all evidence to the contrary, that if their party wins a majority, all will be well. This "triumph of hope over experience" can best be expressed in the words of Seneca the Younger: "Lord, what fools these mortals be."
