Fly the Canadian Red Ensign to Honour Over Two Million Veterans‏

Stand Up For Our Canadian Heritage

By News on the Net  Sunday, March 7, 2010

Dear Fellow Canadian:

With the recent passing of Canada’s last known surviving World War I Veteran, John Babcock, this is the best chance we have had in years to stand up for our Canadian heritage and fly the Canadian Red Ensign forever at the National War Memorial in Ottawa alongside the Maple Leaf Flag. Built after World War One by that generation and just like the Vimy Memorial, it was proudly dedicated under the pre-1957 Red Ensign with green maple leaves, the same flag our World War Two Veterans served under. This would be the most fitting and respectful tribute possible to keep alive the memory of our veterans so that future generations may have a better appreciation of their service.

Thanks in part to the support of veterans, including the late John Babcock, and the acknowledgment of their sacrifice by Prime Minister Stephen Harper, the Red Ensign proudly flies at the National Vimy War Memorial in France. It would therefore be appropriate that it also fly at both the Canadian War Museum and the National War Memorial in Ottawa. There is no better way to remember their courage and sacrifice than to fly the Canadian Red Ensign, the flag that flew over more than a hundred thousand Canadians when they died.

Lest we forget,

Bill Bishop
