MARKHAM, ON, May 26, 2011 /CNW/ - With a string of high-profile awards in the past month, Hyundai is continuing to prove that its vehicles are among the best available. In a recent comparison test by U.S.-based Motor Trend magazine, the all-new 2011 Elantra was pitted against compact sedan rivals from Chevrolet, Ford, Honda, Kia, Mazda, Toyota, and Volkswagen. A similar test was also held by Edmunds.com in which the Elantra faced the all-new Civic and Cruze. The Elantra earned a first-place finish in both tests thanks to best-in-class standard fuel economy, a long list of standard safety features, and strong value.

What's more, the 2011 Elantra has become the sixth Hyundai vehicle to be named a 2011 Top Safety Pick by the U.S.-based Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), joining Equus, Genesis, Santa Fe, Sonata, and Tucson. With more Top Safety Picks than almost any other manufacturer, Hyundai has one of the safest line-ups in the industry. The best-selling mid-size, Sonata, also competed in two comparison tests held by Canadian automotive website Sympatico Autos. Against four-cylinder versions of the Mazda 6 and Subaru Legacy, a Sonata powered by the 2.4-litre GDI engine was chosen as the victor. In a face-off versus the turbocharged Buick Regal and Volkswagen Passat CC, the Sonata 2.0T was again named number one. These two variations of the Sonata offer better fuel economy, more power, and more standard equipment than any of their competitors. Last week, U.S.-based AutoPacific announced the winners of their 2011 Vehicle Satisfaction Awards. After earning the organization's first-ever President's Award in 2010, the Sonata has now received the highest score for 2011 in the "Premium Mid-Size Car" segment. Elantra and Genesis also earned awards, achieving the highest results in the "Compact Car" and "Aspirational Luxury Car" segments, respectively. Genesis has held the award for three consecutive years. "While I'm certainly happy to talk about the virtues of our vehicles, these awards mean you don't have to take my word for it," said John Vernile, Vice President of Marketing at Hyundai Canada. "We're honoured that our relentless efforts to maximize quality, design, and value are being recognized." Hyundai Auto Canada, established in 1983 and headquartered in Markham Ontario, is a subsidiary of Hyundai Motor Company of Korea. Hyundai vehicles are distributed throughout Canada by Hyundai Auto Canada and are sold and serviced through 200 dealerships nationwide.
