If you get a rash; don’t scratch it! If you have tenderness, localized swelling, or fever, sweats or chilling: get to your doctor

PAY ATTENTION!

Good morning. Or, at least it’s a better morning than some I’ve endured lately. This is my pathetic way of trying to apologize for not having published the last few weeks. I have to admit some of the problem was caused by pique brought about from a less-than-enthusiastic response to an effort to gain reimbursement for my efforts as a writer, commentator, wordsmith, big mouth or whatever pejorative or insult you may direct me because we don’t see eye-to-eye on politics.

So, I still get nothing more than your occasional accolade and commentary to let me know somebody is reading the efforts of this humbled servant. But, what the heck! It’s a privilege to be listened to by anybody these days. Thank you. The rest of the problem was brought about by a Staph (staphylococcus aureus) infection causing me no small amount of pain, suffering and remorse for sins past. I was embarrassed to receive the diagnosis because I was of the opinion (even though I was medically trained in an earlier life) Staph was a result of diaper rash, unclean and unsanitary home environments and or transmission by space aliens seeking to take over the world. Not so. I got mine from an infected Sebaceous gland on my mid-back resulting in a growth the size of a biscuit that became more and more infected until life was becoming untenable. The toxins in my skin spread viciously like a wave of armed guerrilla insurgency seeking to overrun, destroy and kill from within. I know this all sounds very dramatic, but it’s a cautionary effort. You can get one of these bloody infections from a shaving nick left unattended by either male or female. It can infiltrate body systems trying to fight the infection and creating other difficulties not readily recognizable by the patient. The discomfort of feeling hot and sweaty is masked by the incredible heat wave being suffered nationwide. The vision problems (hazy, wavy appearance of objects in the distance) are a result of the compromised system of a Diabetic. I’m a diabetic. Diabetes causes a disruption of the body’s healing process allowing a spectrum of infections from a simple Boil to antibiotic resistant infections and when the doo-doo hits the high-speed oscillating air distributor to necrotizing (flesh destroying) bacterial infections. We have worse cases of bacterial infections in North America because we give an antibiotic for everything and the nasty bacteria is becoming more and more immune to the medications’ benefits. Because I’m overweight (groan) I run the risk of cellulitis, a bacterial infection involving the skin. It specifically affects the dermis and subcutaneous fat. Signs and symptoms include an area of redness which increases in size over a couple of days. The borders of the area of redness are generally not sharp and the skin may be swollen. (Wikipedia 2015) This can dive deep into the tissue and spread from there. Doesn’t sound like much does it? But if you’re Diabetic, your immune system is already compromised and if added to the strain of bacteria becoming resistant to antibiotics (your blood chemistry is specific to you – what works for some doesn’t necessarily work for you and vice versa) and you have a problem; a BIG one. I’m offering a cautionary tale here. If you note an unexplained rash, or you may have an explanation like Poison Ivy et al; then you may get the Staph infection when you break the skin scratching at the rash. This is especially dangerous where children are concerned. They’re not noted in their earlier ages for hygienic hand-washing and wound care. Neither are adults when it comes right down to it. What I’m saying here is simple. Don’t take this for granted. If you get a rash; don’t scratch it! If you have tenderness, localized swelling, or fever, sweats or chilling: get to your doctor. I don’t want you suffering the surgery, the nausea and the generalized malaise kept me miserable the last few weeks. PAY ATTENTION! You don’t want this getting past a minor infection and result in debilitating down-time keeping from doing what you enjoy. It sucks. Thanks for listening
