Give the Dems the rope with which to hang themselves

I applaud Senator Cruz for his courageous and principled stand on attempting to defund the So-called “Affordable Care Act,” or ObamaCare, the name by which most people know this monstrosity. I feel the same way about the House of Representatives for its conduct toward a similar end. But I think that Republicans, both in the Senate and the House, have clearly demonstrated their opposition to Obama’s train wreck and maybe it’s time to back off the efforts to stop the law and let it take effect.

Putin’s take not all wrong

The outrage expressed by so many American politicians about Russian President Vladimir Putin’s op-ed in the New York Times is an interesting exercise in speciousness, given that much of what the Russian president wrote is factually correct.

A political CYA

Being a practicing opportunist, President Obama’s prognostications about attacking Syria for crossing his “red line” on the use of chemical weapons, is nothing more than an attempt to increase the value of his stock using America’s military to do so.

Hey, American voters, you’re stupid!

The cynicism and contempt with which President Obama and the Democrats hold the American people is downright criminal. The latest move by the White House postponing full implementation of the Obamacare small business mandate amounts to an admission that the so-called Affordable Care Act (ACA) will have a huge negative impact on the American economy. In short, the ACA will neither be affordable nor will it have much to do with “care.”

The slow slide into dictatorship

A few months back Fox News’ Alan Colmes commented to the effect that anyone who sees a parallel between pre-WWII Germany and Obama’s America is in dire need of psychiatric help. Most people (and I think Alan Colmes in particular) don’t understand that Hitler’s rise to power came at the behest of German voters, who were swayed by the scapegoating and blaming of Germany’s problems on Jews and duplicitous Communists. Hitler’s rise to absolute power came about quite legally through a series of laws passed through the Reichstag, Germany’s then parliament. Ultimately those laws established the National Socialist (NAZI) party (note the word “socialist”) as the only legal political party in Germany by 1934.

Orszag in LaLaLand

A recent column in Newsmax penned by former Obama economic guru, Peter Orszag, attempted to make the case that economic growth in America could be speeded up by simply increasing the number of college grads. Try telling that to the poor schmucks holding an advanced degree and owing over $100,000 in student loans, but unable to find gainful employment.

Give me Librium or give me Meth

America’s track record for winning wars hasn’t been exactly stellar since defeating the Axis powers in 1945. Pretty much every war in which America has engaged since then, it has lost or ended in a stalemate. No wars America has ever fought have failed as dismally as the War on Poverty and the War on Drugs. Both are ongoing and every year conditions worsen. Billions is being spent on the War on Drugs and all that’s been achieved are an increase in violence and corruption, as well as wealthier drug cartels.

A one-party system?

A number of progressive pundits have been urging Obama and the Democrats to sweep aside all opposition to their ultra-leftist agenda by destroying the Republican Party. Leading the pack of yapping hyenas is John Dickerson, who in an op-ed piece for Slate Magazine urged Obama to “go for the throat” and “destroy the GOP” in order to achieve his transformational goals. Rachel Maddow argued that America is a “Liberal” country (capital L is hers) because of an NBC/Washington Post poll that showed a slim majority of Americans supposedly support both same-sex marriage and “immigration reform.” Then there’s Chris Matthews with his histrionics and the whole CNN gang who acted as cheerleader during Obama’s inauguration to all six of their audience members.

Banning scary-looking guns

You can pretty well set your watch by the time it takes the Left to crawl out from under their rocks and call for stricter gun laws, following a mass shooting such as the one in Aurora, Colorado, or the one in Connecticut. Leftists, whose basic functions are right brain based and thus “feel” more readily than think, believe the solution to gun crime of the recent sort is to ban assault weapons.

The trouble with unions

Back in the early 1970s, I briefly worked for Canadian National Railways as a car checker. My job was to walk the tracks at three in the morning in the dead of winter with a flashlight and a clipboard and write down the boxcar numbers of trains that had just arrived. One condition of my employment was that I had to belong to the Canadian Brotherhood of Railway, Transport and General Workers (CBRTGW), the union that represented clerical staff at CN.

Turning America into a Third World backwater

Harry Belafonte of “Day-O” fame has a novel suggestion for Barack Obama: He wants the President to imprison those who oppose his agenda “like a Third World dictator.” You see, that’s the problem with progressives. Scratch one lightly and you’ll always find a totalitarian enamored of fascist methods just beneath the surface.

Give Obama what he wants

The best thing the Republicans could do right now is to give Obama everything that he wants. Those of us who think, rather than feel, understand that Obama’s course will end up with the United States going bankrupt, because there isn’t enough money on the planet, much less the US, to pay for all the goodies the Democrats want to bestow on their favored constituents.

Romney by a landslide

When it comes to predicting the outcome of presidential races most pundits refuse to go out on a limb in predicting probable outcomes. Let’s face it; it’s a risky business that could leave one’s face covered with egg. However, in the case of the current election I will happily stick my neck out and risk being seen as a blowhard who believes himself up to predicting the future.

Obama: ‘Who’re you gonna believe; me or your lyin’ eyes?’

While President Obama appeared much less comatose in Tuesday night’s debate than he was during the first, he certainly played fast and loose with his facts. His constant claim that his administration has created in excess of five million private sector jobs since taking office has little to no supportive evidence.

Accelerating ‘newspeak’ and ‘double think’

"When I use a word," Humpty Dumpty said, in a rather scornful tone, "it means just what I choose it to mean - neither more nor less."
"The question is," said Alice, "whether you can make words mean so many different things."

Democrats are going for broke

One thing you can say about the Democratic Party, they are an interesting bunch. Scrutinizing the events and pronouncements during their convention is both educational as well as entertaining. Today’s Democrats as a party make George Lukas’s Star Wars bar look like a convention of southern Methodists, given the freak show they’ve put on.

Defining the argument

One of the unfortunate consequences of being a decent person is that it makes one reluctant to tell lies and half-truths. Not so with individuals whose beliefs are such that the end justifies the means. It leads to the creation of creepy Orwellian terminology to advance a point of view and it usually originates from the Left.

“You didn’t build that?!”

Once again Barack Obama has demonstrated that he doesn’t have a clue about how America works. This time he borrowed a line from Elizabeth Warren, the Massachusetts Democrat who is challenging incumbent Republican Senator Scott Brown in an effort to reclaim Teddy Kennedy’s seat. Obama claims that anyone in the US who runs a successful business has not achieved that success on his or her own volition, but instead has to thank the government for making that success possible.

Passing head wind

As the Labor Department released its latest dismal statistics about America’s 8.2% unemployment rate, the Obama campaign is pedaling furiously to defend his record in office. “We’re fighting our way back,” Obama pleaded on a campaign stop in Minnesota. “Our economy is still facing serious head winds.”

Europe steps to the precipice

The defeat of Nicolas Sarkozy in France’s presidential election and the victory of a socialist president could be the straw that broke Europe’s back and by association, that of the global economy. Over the past two years there has been a struggle among Euro-types over what to do about the Eurozone’s many flagging economies. It started with several bailouts of Greece, whose citizens somehow feel that if their government can’t give them cradle-to-grave “care,” then the job should fall to the more industrious and harder working members of the European Union.
