Once upon a time, America was a great place and we need to turn back the clock. MAGA! That’s the message from… Wait. This can’t be right. Elizabeth Warren?
On Sunday, a 24-year-old man from Maryland opened fire at a video game tournament in Jacksonville, Florida. When the shooting stopped, two people were dead and a dozen more were injured. The shooter took his own life.
In the past, we’ve discussed the fact that states like Vermont and California have toyed with the idea of statewide single-payer healthcare. Every time it comes up, it’s promoted, debated, and ultimately abandoned due to the absolutely insane costs involved.
“Trump’s about to be prosecuted. These revelations will either result in impeachment or guarantee that he loses in 2020. This time, we’ve really got him.”
For the last week, this has been the message being delivered by virtually every prominent Democrat and NeverTrump Republican. No matter where you looked, you couldn’t help but read some variation of the same theme.
If you spend all your time watching, studying, and analyzing politics, it’s easy to start thinking that the stuff you care about is the stuff everyone cares about. That’s just a normal side effect of life in the political bubble. Whether you love Trump or hate him, it’s easy to assume the outrage you’re feeling is being experienced everywhere.
Teachers. According to the left, they’re our greatest national treasure. Their efforts to enlighten the next generation of Americans are both selfless and tireless. They’re members of a time-honored tradition and, despite the low pay and long hours, give all they have to educate the planet’s future leaders. They deserve our gratitude, our respect, and much, much, more of our tax money.
As you’re probably aware, former DNC Deputy Chair and soon-to-be former U.S. Representative Keith Ellison has been accused of both physically and emotionally abusing his ex-girlfriend. According to the accuser, there are video and audio recordings (as well as text messages) that will substantiate the claim, though they’ve refused to produce the evidence. Ellison has flatly denied the charge.
Earlier, we discussed the fact that Elizabeth Warren views questions about the horrific murder of Mollie Tibbetts as a nice opportunity to promote her border agenda. That’s to be expected from someone like Warren but, you might wonder, how does the rest of the media view it? Well, they view it as no big deal. To them, it’s something we’re supposed to ignore, in favor of news about Donald Trump’s lawyer.
No one is going to argue that our immigration system is perfect. Literally everyone agrees that it needs some kind of an overhaul. This disagreement comes when you ask what we should do. For some of us, the fix is a merit-based system, and end to lotteries and chain migration, and massively improved border security. For others, it means open borders, catch-and-release, and ‘the honor system.’
Hardcore progressives do some ridiculous things. They wear ridiculous pink hats, they back ill-informed socialists in New York elections, they see bigotry where it doesn’t exist and ignore it where it does, and they get weepy over the Handmaid’s Tale while failing to mention the theocratic plight facing half the planet’s women.
If you’ve read anything I’ve written over the course of the last decade, you’re know that I was not a fan of Barack Obama’s presidency. Precious little came from his tenure that any conservative would support and, on the rare occasion that he got something right, it was small potatoes. The big stuff, like large scale legislation and foreign policy, was an absolute, unmitigated, mess. I couldn’t wait for the day he left office.
Tax cuts killed you, the repeal of net neutrality killed you, Gorsuch killed you, immigration laws killed you, the end of the individual mandate killed you, Russian meddling killed you, and the end of Michelle Obama’s lunch program might have killed you depending on your age.
A few months ago, I delivered the bad news. Those of you who wanted to take your emotional support tarantula on an airplane were in for a rude awakening. Airlines were trimming the list of acceptable support animals, and 8-legged bugs were not going to make the cut.
According to Gallup, almost 60% of Dems currently have a favorable view of socialism. The party is drifting over the leftist cliff, and it’s betting its future on radicals who play to the coasts but are anathema to the rest of the country. So, whether you call yourself a socialist, a democratic socialist, or simply a Democrat doesn’t really matter anymore. If you’re aligned with that party, you know where you’re headed.
They just can’t help themselves. In any other era, you’d expect to see one or two back bench Republicans, and one or two obscure Democrats, make huge, embarrassing, gaffes. It’s just the nature of the beast. When neophytes spend a ton of time in front of cameras, stuff happens.
For months, the Democrats have been rummaging through the personal and professional life of Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh. Their goal is to uncover something, anything, that would empower their efforts to deny him a seat on the bench. Make no mistake, this is a party-wide effort and you can bet the DNC has its “top men” studying the problem.
Oooooooh…. CNN just went for the low blow.
Yesterday, we discussed Nancy Pelosi’s belief that NBC – a network almost entirely populated by Democrats – was out to get her.
If you were a Republicans who got your news solely from outlets like NBC, CBS, ABC, and CNN, you’d think the whole country hated you. The powerful drumbeat of negativity is ugly, overwhelming, and relentless.
Whether she’s talking about “Russian collusion” or claiming that “God sent Trump to remind us we’re racist,” Nancy Pelosi seems to love a good conspiracy theory. Usually, she invokes them to cover for the fact that she – or her party – has suffered an embarrassing loss. They can’t just fail. That’s impossible. There must be some sinister behind-the-scenes machination to blame!
Well, it looks like ethically, morally, and probably legally challenged FBI agent Peter Strzok will soon be hitting the unemployment line. …Or possibly jail. …Or, most likely, a publisher’s office to pitch a book.
