TBN: No Naming Names – Apostasy’s New Gospel of Thieves

After 23 years in the special top audience time slots with Trinity Broadcasting Network, Dr. Jack Van Impe has pulled the plug. Reasons cited are that, TBN’s top execs don’t want Van Impe naming names of ministers and ministries that Van Impe says are teaching corruptions of the gospel.

Among the names Van Impe specifically referred to were Robert Schuller (Crystal Cathedral) and Rick Warren (Purpose Driven Life). TBN’s policy is that no one using air time with the TBN is allowed to rebuke or criticize other ministers. It is not known whether TBN includes ministers who are not part of TBN programming. Dr. Van Impe was airing a series of programs on four churches that were promoting ‘Chrislam’ which is a meld of Christianity and Islam and a part of the new tolerance and diversity movement of the far left ideologues who have crept into the church in the last decade. They have begun attempts to reshape the new apostates in churches that are not scripturally grounded and consequently are totally unsuspecting. While Dr. Van Impe has been criticized for his open affinity with the Pope and for his teachings of a partial rapture, these are not beliefs or issues that are critical to anyone’s salvation. The teaching of Chrislam on the other hand is most certainly a doctrine of devils. “Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils.” (1Tim 4: 1) Along with biblically grounded and much beloved preachers like Jon Hagee, TBN has an admixture of teachers and evangelists that include those who preach the highly controversial “prosperity gospel.” The Bible does teach God’s willingness to make people prosperous but the excesses in that teaching and the lack of its universality make it suspect. Other than western nations the prosperity gospel is not well received in all countries especially among nations were people are barely surviving. The real gospel on the other hand can be preached to rich and poor alike, it promises to make men new, not necessarily rich. The gospel is predicated on the premise that all men are sinners and are in need of a Savior. God establishes what the parameters of sin are and because he loves men he offers them a way to get out of the consequences of their sins. It is based on repentance and faith in his finished work on the cross. There he died for the sins of the world as the incarnation of the living God in the form of man, Jesus Christ. A blood sacrifice is required by God to deal with sin. The precursor to Christ was the slaying of the sacrificial lamb to atone for the sins of the people. The gospel is the final slaying of God’s Son as the Lamb of God who deals with sin once and for all. Any gospel new or old, and any religion modern or ancient that does not provide a blood sacrifice to deal with sin is not only false it is a complete hoax. “…without shedding of blood is no remission.” (Heb 9: 22) If Buddha, Mohammad, or any named leader of a religion ancient or modern has not provided a blood sacrifice then they are labeled as “thieves and robbers.” “Then said Jesus unto them again, verily, verily, I say unto you, I am the door of the sheep. All that ever came before me are thieves and robbers: but the sheep did not hear them.” (Jn 10: 7, 8) “The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly. I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep.” (Jn 10: 10, 11) If the one who died for the sins of the world calls them thieves then why are we critical of someone who points out the error in those who preach ‘the gospel of thieves.’ Along with Van Impe and others, shouldn’t we applaud them? The great ‘falling away’ of the Christian church in the last days is called the apostasy and in every instance the error can be traced to the proclamation of a gospel without the sacrifice of blood for the atonement of sin. Nine fold pathways, systems of behavior, cleansing, flagellations, liturgy, ceremony, hierarchy, UFO interventions, general gobbledygook, and the so called “great religions of the world,” make an endless list of substitutions for blood sacrifice; all are so much dust in God’s eyes. We don’t like to dismiss what we call one of the world’s ‘great religions’ as a complete error. It is hard enough to get one man to humble himself at the foot of the cross. So how hard can it be to get whole religions to admit that they have collectively made errors about who and what God is and wants on a regional, national or continental level, and soon to come, a worldwide level. Dr. Van Impe did much more than just stand his ground. He did what the Apostle Paul urged every believer to do especially as we approach the last days. “I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel: Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ. But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.” (Gal 1: 6-8)
