Michigan’s Gretchen Whitmer, the State’s Senate Democratic Leader, is now pleading for President Obama to trample on Michigan’s state sovereignty and control the state from Washington DC. This is an odd request for someone that thinks she should be Michigan’s next Governor.
During most of American history, state politicians have been keen to safeguard their own power in their state. We even fought a whole civil war in part over the idea of states’ rights, after all. Oh, but not Michigan’s Gretchen Whitmer. No, for Whitmer, allowing unions and President Obama to control Michigan is far more important than allowing the people of Michigan and their representatives to control the state. Whitmer, you see, is trying to get President Obama to withhold federal funds from Michigan merely because Republicans and worker’s rights advocates have succeeded in passing right-to-work-style legislation in the current lame-duck session.

Whitmer is calling the right-to-work law “petty and vindictive politics.” That’s how losers talk, we all know. So, she wants King Obama to take action.
“We are hoping that when President Obama comes to Michigan next week, that this is going to be on his radar screen, that he’s going to say Michigan doesn’t care about their middle class, [so] why should we be bending over backwards to make sure that this governor is able to deliver on his promise,” said Mrs. Whitmer in an interview with local radio station WWJ.
Whitmer has proven that her fealty is to unions. Not her role as a Senator, not her duty to protect state power from federal encroachment, and not the duty she wants to assume as Governor. Yes, Whitmer imagines she should be the one to take on sitting Governor Rick Snyder in the next gubernatorial election, but here she is pleading for the federal government to trample on state power? What sort of tact is that for a prospective governor to take? If this fool won election, is she so disinterested in leading her state from the state capital in Lansing that she’d just let the feds run everything from Washington? What sort of tact is that for a prospective governor to take? Is she a woman of power or a Washington controlled puppet?
