Asking Obama for a plan to balance the budget is 'stupid legislation'.

Democrats’ idea of a ‘gimmick’: Telling Obama to do his job

Let’s talk about gimmicks, or what Democrats consider a gimmick in the course of governing this nation. The Republican-controlled House on Wednesday passed a bill that would require the president one of two things. Either submit a plan to balance the budget within 10 years, or say when he envisions the budget being balanced if not within 10 years.

The House, of course, is working on a plan that will balance the budget within 10 years. Democrats’ response? That is best typified by this statement from Jim McGovern of Massachusetts: “It’s a gimmick wrapped in talking points inside a press release.” Louise Slaughter of New York said the Republicans should stop “spending our time debating stupid legislation like this.” Needless to say, Harry Reid has no intention of taking up the Legislation in the Senate. Right! Because what could be more irrelevant than at least having a plan to address the nation’s fiscal situation? By the time he leaves office, Obama will have been responsible for eight years’ worth of budgets. Not one of them will come anywhere close to being balanced, and at no point has Obama put in place even the vaguest plan for how to balance the budget over the long term. And of course we know: The Democrats haven’t passed a federal budget at all since 2009. When Republicans criticize them for that, Democrats say it’s a made-up, phony issue. When Republicans demand a plan for balancing the budget, Democrats say it’s a gimmick and stupid legislation. How dare you tell them they should do their jobs!
