Why doesn't the GOP get this?

Allen West discusses the liberal fear of black conservatives

A few weeks ago, I wrote a piece featuring five things the GOP needed to do if it hoped to regain its prominence. The first thing on the list was: Stop conceding defeat before the fight starts. For decades the Republican Party has simply assumed there are states - and cities - that it can't possibly win, so they've stopped fighting for conservatism in those locations. As a result, they've created a self-fulfilling prophecy.
They don't think they can succeed, so they don't. In largely minority cities like L.A., Detroit, and New York, the GOP has failed, miserably, to create inroads. A major part of this problem is race, and that's why Democrats are absolutely terrified of black conservatives. If strong black candidates start taking a constitutional message into the country's inner cities, the message may just catch on. Even a small shift in the Democrat-controlled minority electorate would be disastrous for the left. This week, Allen West brought that message to CPAC.

"There is nothing on this green Earth," West said. "That a liberal progressive fears more than a black American who wants a better life and a smaller government." He appeared last night on Greta Van Susteren's show to discuss his speech and, while he neglected to include a certain black 2012 presidential candidate, his comments are 100% correct. "Anytime you see people stand up and they swim against the current - especially as a minority conservative, but definitely a black conservative - the other side comes at them viciously," West said. He then referred to a San Francisco left-wing political group that targeted his 2012 reelection claims with bogus charges that he beat his wife. "That's fear. They don't want to talk about the issues. They don't want to talk about an African-American conservative that has served 22 years in the military, that understands fiscal policies and responsibility, that understands commitment to this country and individual sovereignty and freedom." This has been obvious to the Republican base for decades but, for whatever reason, the elites within the GOP refuse to get the message. Conservatives, if you want to win, listen to Allen West. Here's the video.
