Keeping faith in the truth

The pain that goes beyond the lost lives and lost limbs of the Boston Marathon terrorist attack is the ongoing one that sees the myriad of conspiracies out there all but trumping the truth.
Conspiracy poisons truth and takes its hostages among the weak-minded and low-informed. People advancing conspiracy theories on social networks like Facebook and Twitter live for those few seconds of ‘fame’ while their names flash before the world over the Internet before traveling down copy to the bottom of the heap. Has society reached the stage where it buys more readily into conspiracy rather than the truth? From the moment it was known that the Marathon bomber suspects were jihadists rather than ‘redneck, bible-thumping Tea Partiers’, the narrative jumped to the conclusion that “this didn’t happen” rather than “how can we help stop this from happening again?”

Imagine being a loved one of 7-year-old Jane Richard, who for just standing at the Marathon finish line with her beloved “big brother”, lost her leg and is still fighting for her life due to multiple other wounds days after her brother was killed and whose mother has undergone brain surgery. Imagine the utter frustration that must be felt by terrorism experts like Robert Spencer, who devoted years to studying the subject of Islamic terrorism and who stands courageously at the forefront of the battle lines having to shuck off both smears and personal threats that are now routine. Imagine being an American and having to watch the same president who bans the word ‘terrorism’, call an act of terrorism at Fort Hood which claimed the lives of 13 Americans “workplace violence”, going on to throw individual rights and freedoms into the capacious trash bin of history, while Fort Hood accused killer Nidal Hassan awaits trial some three and a half years later. How about those having to mentally and physically adjust to the harsh reality of missing limbs recuperating in the same hospital where the bombing suspect is being treated up the hall, and the one where jihadist sympathizers are planning a rally of support for Dzhokhar Tsarneav? What about Americans with children to feed in a job search where there are no jobs having to keep going on with the knowledge that one of the two Boston bombing suspects was a welfare recipient while he was learning jihad and that both grew up in a family that sometimes raised them on welfare? How must it feel to be a God-loving American knowing that their president proudly wears the unabashed badge complete with wife-letter-boasting as the world’s top Champion of Partial Birth Abortion; sends their tax dollars to support abortion in foreign countries, and will boldly attend a Planned Parenthood Fundraising Gala during the Kermit Gosnell trial, within two weeks of the Boston terrorist attack? Americans and Canadians: Your countries are under attack. There are more than likely innumerable terror sleeper cells spread throughout your towns and cities, members of which are waiting for the next strike. Claiming there is no such thing as ‘terrorism’ (Obama), “the term Islamist” (Associated Press) and buying into conspiracy (social networks, some websites and blogs) don’t cut it. You and your loved ones are in a clear and present danger and your government -- because of continuing lax immigration policies--is no help. It is only the truth and not conspiracy that could one day set you free.
