Debut of ‘Mr. Obama Moon’:

Plans afoot to make the Moon Obama’s biggest poster

Nobody but Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin and company has ever been within spitting distance of the fabled Man in the Moon.
But even the youngest of the small fry who turned up in Salt Lake City, Utah, last Independence Day weekend to attend Glenn Beck’s ‘Man in the Moon’ extravaganza would fully understand that the storied moon is a long way away. Two House Democrats have proposed legislation that would establish a national historical park on the surface of the moon to mark where the Apollo missions landed between 1969 and 1972. (Guess all those planted American flags don’t really count). The farfetched -- if not downright loony -- bill is for real:
“The bill from Reps. Donna Edwards (D-Md) and Eddie Bernice Johnson (D-Texas) would create the Apollo Lunar Landing Sites National Historical Park. The park would be comprised of all artifacts left on the surface of the moon from the Apollo 11 through 17 missions.” (TheHill.com, July 9, 2013).

Take that, Glenn Beck. The loony moony bill says these sites need to be protected because of the anticipated increase in commercial moon landings in the future. (God only knows there’ll be no increase in U.S. tourista travel with Obama in charge). “As commercial enterprises and foreign nations acquire the ability to land on the Moon, it is necessary to protect the Apollo lunar landing sites for posterity,” according to the text of the Apollo Lunar Landing Legacy Act, H.R. 2617. “Under the legislation, the park would be established no later than one year after the bill passes and would be run jointly by the Department of the Interior and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration. “The measure would allow the government to accept donations from companies and foreign governments to help manage the landing sites and “provide visitor services and administrative facilities within reasonable proximity to the Historical Park.” By their measure, Houston could be within “reasonable proximity to the Historical Park”. Surprise, surprise: The park will be gifted to the United Nations as a Heritage Site. The UN already claims ownership of half the earth, why shouldn’t they be made a gift of the Moon? And that’s not counting the Big O’s permanent picture establishing the FACT that Barack Obama is The Man in the Moon. No hopes of the Obama moving there when there are so many more opportunities for playing on earth. Another bill, Bill H.R. 2616 also reauthorizes the Obama-denuded NASA for three years and authorizes the spending of $18.1 billion in 2014 for NASA, which rises to $18.9 billion in 2016. “Aside from boosting NASA’s budget, the bill also sets as a goal a human mission to Mars and maintains a commitment to funding International Space Station operations through 2020.” (TheHill.com). But wait a minute, doesn’t this dust any riding Muslims right off the tail of the manned space flights that replaced the Space Shuttle which Obama shut down back in 2010? It was in 2010 when Obama forced NASA to try to make Muslims ‘feel good’. Charles Bolden, a retired United States Marines Corps major-general and former astronaut told al-Jazeera that Barack Obama told him to make “reaching out to the Muslim world” one of the space agency’s “top priorities”. Obama gleefully announced the scrapping of the moon programme in favor of an aspiration to visit Mars, canceling the Constellation programme for manned space flight, the successor to the Space Shuttle. It means NASA would not be able to travel beyond the Earth’s lower orbit without international assistance and need the help of allies to make it to Mars. More than the hearts of the small fry were broken over those Internet pictures of the Space Shuttle being dragged through the streets on its way to the mothballing ordered by Obama in the fall of 2012. Meanwhile, Glenn Beck should go after Edwards and Johnson for capitalizing on his original ‘Man in the Moon’ ideas.
