(PERTH) - Randy Hillier (Lanark-Frontenac-Lennox & Addington) weighed in on the recent Liberal announcement that vehicle and drivers licensing will see another fee increase, the second in as many years.
“I find it astounding that the Liberals would boast that this is only the second increase in fifteen years, while announcing the fees will also increase for each of the next two years as well,” remarked Hillier, remembering the outcry over last year’s increase. “It’s no coincidence that the government that emaciated the province and doubled Ontario’s debt since coming to power in 2003 finds itself ravenous for more money.”
The Liberals have announced that renewing a driver's licence or getting a new one will rise to $80 from $75, vehicle license fees will rise to $90 in most of Ontario, and drivers examinations will rise from between $5 and $10, depending on the test.
“With over $600 million or more lost to power plant relocations, a $2 billion loss in wind energy to date, and other spending scandals such as eHealth and ORNGE, nobody with a reasonable grasp on reality believes this new tax grab is going to roads and bridges,” added Hillier. “The reality in Ontario today is that after health care and education, the next largest budget line item is servicing the debt.”
“I don’t know who they think they’re fooling,” concluded Hillier.
Randy Hillier, MPP Lanark Frontenac Lennox, is a co-founder of the Lanark Landowners Association, which was brought to life to address government imposition on the rights of private property owners, and to address the regressive regulatory impositions that government was bringing down upon farmers and business owners in rural Ontario.
In 2006, Randy resigned as President of the OLA in order to run as a candidate for the Progressive Conservatives. Randy was elected in the 2007 provincial election.
