Cairo, Egypt-Perhaps the 9\11 attacks in New York drew the world's attention to Terrorism, and its threat to humanity. Perhaps it was also partially due to the importance of the U.S and its huge mainstream 24-7 mainstream media machine.
But what the United States does not remember is that there are other countries who were suffering from the same hateful terrorism for decades who never had a chance to say: “Who is not with us is against us”, as President George Bush said. Since the early ‘80s, Egypt has suffered severely from terrorist attacks, which began with the killing of former leader Anwar Sadat in 1981, and continued to threaten the security of citizens and the Egyptian economy with a large number of bombings and assassinations, including the massacre of Luxor in 1997, which killed about 60 foreign tourists and the last major attacks on Sinai tourist cities such as Sharm el-Sheikh, Dahab and others. After a long period of calm with the truce between terrorist groups and the Egyptian government under former President Mubarak, these groups returned to declare themselves again and rear their treacherous heads after the January 25 revolution. They returned repeating the same old actions of assinations and bombings.

Since the isolation of the Muslim Brotherhood President Mohamed Morsi by the Egyptian army, a series of terrorist attacks began in the cities of Egypt, and did not stop until the present day. These operations include the repeated bombing of gas lines to Israel and Jordan and attacks on churches, mosques, museums, government institutions, police departments and the slaughter of the officers inside, to the indiscriminate killing of civilians in reprisal for the overthrow of the Brotherhood from power. The largest concentration of attacks was in Sinai Peninsula, where the Brotherhood resettled more than 5,000 terrorists during their one year of rule. They came from all over the world, from Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria and other countries. President Morsi also released a large number of terrorists and colleagues from prisons, those who were waiting for the death penalty or lifetime imprisonment. So when Morsi was isolated and leaders of the Muslim Brotherhood were imprisoned, these terrorists began their attacks on vital goals, the Egyptian police--military and civilians alike. There has been solid union and cooperation among these various terrorist groups because of a shared main goal, which is to ignite sedition between Muslims and Christians, make a negative impact on the Egyptian economy to portray Egypt as an unsafe destination for tourists and investors. With the successive crackdowns by the army and police on these groups, which have resulted in the deaths and arrest of more than 1,000 leaders of the terrorists in the Sinai alone, secret demands began within these groups to move their terrorist operations inside major Egyptian cities such as Cairo and Alexandria. And that was after the failure of the terrorists in killing Interior Minister Mohammed Ibrahim with a car bomb last week, which a group called ‘the Brigades of Jerusalem’ claimed responsibility for, as well as the last bombing which targeted government buildings in El-Arish in northern Sinai, including the intelligence and the security of state buildings. The attack killed 11 people, 6 military and 5 civilians. Analysts say that these demands of moving terrorist operations inside the cities is an important indicator of the weakness of such groups. This shift is a propaganda tactic intent on indicating that they are able to reach the depth of Egyptian cities at any time, which is not realistic as it is just a propaganda show. Later leaks from the security services all say that good news will be released in the next coming few days about the elimination of a large number of terrorism gatherings and the arrest of important terrorists leaders. Many experts also declare that the return of the Muslim Brotherhood and its supporters to the same tactics of the ‘40s and ‘50s--with assassinations and bombings, is a great indicator that the group is tottering under pressure from the attacks carried out by the Egyptian security forces, which has reduced their presence to scattered rallies in towns and villages, with small numbers of the Brotherhood sympathizers only available on Fridays, under tight control of the Egyptian security to ensure that they stick to the limits dictated. But what is most striking is that despite all the terrorist operations and rallies in Egypt, and the enormous efforts of the Egyptian authorities to combat these groups, the American media does not pay attention to it--exactly as it did during the ‘80s and ‘90s. Is it due to what was recently revealed about the support for these Muslim-Brotherhood-led terrorist groups by the Obama-led U.S. administration, whether it’s in Egypt, Syria or elsewhere? Can the silence stem from the tacit cooperation of the Obama administration and these terrorist groups? Opinions may differ on that, but what we can assume knowing the the recent Islamic fanatic terrorism started in Egypt at the hands of the Muslim Brotherhood who established militant groups since the ‘40s, which multiplied and spread in the ‘70s, such as the Jihad group headed by Ayman al-Zawahiri, who became head of al Qaeda after bin Laden, or the Al-Jemaah Islamiyah militant group, headed by blind Sheikh Omar Abdel Rahman, who is currently detained in the United States, or other groups who joined al-Qaeda in Afghanistan, Iraq or Syria and other combat zones. The good news is that these groups, which began with the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt and spread around the world, will also end also there at the hands of the Egyptian forces and moderate Muslims. Many Egyptians believe that when they can put an end to these groups in Egypt, it will also be the end to the terrorism-first-supporter in the United States administration: Barack Hussein Obama.
