Russian military and economic aid flows into Egypt

Is Putin a better world leader than Obama?

Cairo, Egypt--Seems that all roads go through Russia now, after the United States began abandoning Egypt all because the new government refuses to submit to the wishes of the White House and the further empowerment of extremists in Egypt. Egyptian-Russian relations witnessed major developments as a delegation of Egyptians visited Russia to invite President Vladimir Putin to join Egypt as a partner and strategic ally.
Russia and Egypt just announced that Russia will provide about $2 billion worth of advanced weapons to Egypt including defense systems, helicopters, Kornet anti-tank missiles, surface-to-surface missiles, MiG- 29 fighters as part of a $4 billion total aid package. Russian’s policies toward Egypt, Syria, and Iran, have opened the door to speculation about what Putin plans and objectives are in the Middle East--especially since it is all goes contrary to American policies. These new Russian activities came after a long period of silence when many people nearly forgot that there was another super power in the world other than the United States. Beginning with Arab Spring and the collapse of the dictatorial regimes loyal to America in the region, and with Western calls for a strike on Syria in response to using chemical weapons, the Russian Bear roared louder.

Putin emerged as a supporter of Egypt and its savior from western intransigence with its growing support to the extremist Muslim Brotherhood. Putin announced his commitment to provide financial and military support to Egypt to the same level of previous U.S. aid. Russia’s acts reflect its awareness of Obama's blundering, out-of-control policy in the Middle East, as one necessary for Russia to pay for American’s lame policy. Fyodor Lukyanov, Chairman of the Foreign Policy and defense Centre in Russia, said Russians now look to the United States today as the largest source of global instability. The Russian administration sits and watches the floundering positions of the Obama administration and its failure to manage crisis after crisis in the Middle East--from Libya to Egypt and Syria, and even its choice of timing to withdrawal from Iraq, which threatens the country to slip into a new state of chaos. Russia has good reason for concern as Russia knows the threat of Islamic extremists to them is real and not just theory. Afghan and Iranian extremists threaten Russia. Muslim countries besieging Russia's borders in the south-east, (there are about 57 Islamic ethnic groups among the 182 ethnic groups that make up the Russian Federation--all of them with a significant increase in birthrates while Russian’s birthrates continue to decline.) In Moscow, there are now about two million Russian Muslims, and that’s not counting two million Muslim migrant workers, making Moscow the largest Muslim populated European city after Istanbul in Turkey. Experts predict that by the year 2050, the Muslim community could make up the majority of the Russian population. These demographic changes are serious and raise many concerns in the whole of Europe. Putin has already fought bloody war against what he considers "radical Islam" in Chechnya, and the existence of dozens of groups like the Chechen fighters appearing within Russia keeps those fears festering. Recently, Putin visited Iran hoping to maintain good relations with the mullahs there, as he continues to ship weapons to al-Assad in Syria, which brings us back to President Obama. Everywhere Putin looks, he believes that Obama is destabilizing regimes in Middle East, encouraging and supporting extremist groups such as the Muslim Brotherhood and al Qaeda-linked rebels. Obama still allows Iran to possess and develop nuclear weapons, a source of real and long-term concern to the leaders of the Kremlin, as he threatened to direct a military strike against Syria, which Iran says would lead to revenge reprisals all over the world. All of this gives Putin evidence for the strategic madness that haunts the American administration, which is threatening the world with a new Cold War--this time one with an Islamic flavor. Russia’s recent offer to deliver Syrian chemical weapons in exchange for the United State’s pledge not to launch any military strikes on Syria reflects President Putin’s priority to rein in the ignorant U.S. President before he can cause more damage. Moreover, the agreement concerning the Syrian chemical weapons brings a new opportunity for Putin to be portrayed as "wise new leader" of the Free World. That new role was expressed by Putin himself when he said that Russian’s new foreign policy is directed at those "who value their independence and have the courage to make decisive decisions in favor of their countries because all nations should value stability more than anything else. Putin is trying to present himself as the leader of a new world instead of Obama, who has failed in test after test. People are wondering now whether the new world led by Putin would be a better one than one under the leadership of Obama. Meanwhile, Putin’s growing status could be stamped ‘Made in America’.
