Illusions of Sustainability: Organic Believers Speak Out
By Dennis T. Avery, Hudson Institute
Friday, September 21, 2007
"I read a piece by Dennis Avery in today's Minneapolis Star. Dennis expressed concern that 'organic farms may have concentrated themselves on steep hilly land that is prone to mudslides.' (Organic Farms Suffering Mudslides) I have visited many farmers in the Upper Midwest and I can say without reservation that this assertion is incorrect. Their losses are not due to mudslides but to an incredible amount of rain that caused flash flooding over the entire region." (Rick, Minneapolis)
Why Zeke can't take Shorty to the fair
By Henry Lamb
Monday, September 17, 2007
Zeke lived with an FFA teacher because he had no other home. He worked for his room and board; he fed the pigs and chickens, and helped with the milking. The summer between the 8th and 9th grades, Jasper, the FFA teacher, took Zeke to a neighbor's ranch and let him pick out a day-old Hereford bull for his first FFA project. The deal was that Jasper would pay for the calf, and for the feed, and Zeke could repay Jasper when the calf grew to become the Grand Champion Steer at the state fair, and sold at the fair's annual auction.
Is private property the foundation of prosperity?
By Henry Lamb
Monday, September 10, 2007
Is private property the foundation of prosperity? America's founders were convinced that it is. For more than a century, the vast majority of Americans, and their elected representatives were convinced that it is. In the last half-century, the majority of Americans, and their elected representatives, have lost sight of this fundamental principle of freedom, and have allowed governments at every level to take, or to take control of, the foundation of prosperity for all Americans.
NAIS "Opt-out" now available, but no one knows about it
By Henry Lamb
Monday, August 20, 2007
It took the better part of a year, but Calvin and Carol Whittaker finally got their name and premises registration removed from the National Animal Identification System (NAIS). Within days of completing what they thought was the renewal of their brand registration last year, they received a letter from the Idaho Department of Agriculture informing them that their ranch had been registered in the NAIS.
What Excuse for the New Farm Bill?
By Dennis T. Avery, Hudson Institute
Saturday, July 14, 2007
The Congress is trying urgently to write a new farm bill—but it can't think of an excuse for passing it. The cold reality, of course, is simply that half of the U.S. Senate is elected in states where the farm vote is significant, and neither party wants to lose an election because of a few unhappy farmers.
U.N. says government must control land use
By Henry Lamb
Monday, June 25, 2007
An official delegation from the U.S. Government actually signed a U.N. document that says:
"Private land ownership is a principal instrument of accumulation and concentration of wealth and therefore contributes to social injustice.... Public control of land use is therefore indispensable...."
Forget the illegal aliens, track the cows!
By Henry Lamb
Monday, June 18, 2007
For more than 20 years, illegal aliens have crossed the U.S. border by the millions, and have successfully avoided thousands of law enforcement officials whose job it is to capture and remove the illegals from the United States. Government has utterly failed to locate, capture, or remove the illegals.
National sellout; national tragedy
By Henry Lamb
Monday, May 21, 2007
American roads are the hottest commodity in the international marketplace. State and local governments are falling all over themselves to sell off highways, bridges, and all sorts of other revenue-producing infrastructure, to international financiers who are eager to snap up structures
Ontario Landowner's Association demands that McGuinty explain his association with SOS
By Ontario Landowner's Association

The Ontario Landowner's Association (OLA) is calling on Dalton McGuinty to explain his government's position on compensating rural Landowners after comments made by Wendy Francis, a member of the Save Ontario's Species Coalition (SOS). Francis was responding to questions on the issue of compensating Landowners in a telephone interview with OLA Vice President Jamie MacMaster, who regularly contributes articles to The Landowner Magazine
Let's poke "Big-Brother" in the eye
By Henry Lamb
Monday, April 30, 2007
The USDA proudly boasts on its web site that nearly 385,000 people have registered their premises to participate in the National Animal Identification System. They do not say how many of these people were registered without their knowledge, as was done in Idaho. They do not say how much money they distributed to various entities in exchange for soliciting registrations. They do not say that many of the registrations were coerced by requiring registration before participating in 4-H events, and county fairs, and other shows.
Who really owns beachfront property?
By Henry Lamb
Monday, March 26, 2007
Few places in the world offer a more spectacular view than the Gulf of Mexico, seen from the top floor of a beachfront condominium in Naples, Florida. That's why - we'll call him Charlie - chose to live in this condo, three miles north of the Naples pier.
How much land should the government own?
By Henry Lamb
Friday, March 2, 2007
Government - at every level - is addicted to land acquisition. Local, state, and the federal governments are buying up land as if the last acre had already been created.
Governments: Do your job; protect our rights
By Henry Lamb
Monday, February 26, 2007
The right to speak freely; the right to worship freely; and the right to pursue happiness, are defined by our founders to be "unalienable rights," endowed by our Creator. The pursuit of happiness begins with the ownership of property. The absence of the right to own property is slavery. These rights are enshrined in our Constitution which created a government expressly for the purpose of "securing" these rights.
