COLOMBIA: VOMC Partner Acquitted of all Charges

Source: VOMC Partners Last week, we requested prayer for Russell Stendal, a good friend of VOMC who was arrested on false charges in Colombia. Although Russell had only 10 minutes to speak his case, the judge believed our ministry partner and stated that the prosecutor had wasted her time. The case has since been thrown out and Russell is completely absolved.

Second-hand economy in Canada worth $30 billion annually, report finds

TORONTO, - Canadians spend close to $30 billion each year on used cars, hockey equipment and baby furniture, among other items, according to the inaugural Kijiji Second-Hand Economy Index, released today. The study, undertaken for Kijiji on its 10th anniversary in Canada by researchers from the University of Toronto and Montreal's Observatoire de la Consommation Responsable, also reveals that second-hand goods spending by Canadians contributes close to $34 billion to the country's gross domestic product (GDP) in Canada by diverting dollars away from items that would otherwise be imported. Other benefits of the second-hand economy include job creation and a reduction in environmentally harmful waste, the study shows.

LIBYA: Abducted Egyptian Christians Beheaded by Militants

Sources: Middle East Concern, Release International The Christian community in Egypt is in mourning after 21 Egyptian Christians who had moved to Libya for employment were brutally murdered by members loyal to the Islamic State (ISIS) militant group. Those involved with ISIS posted a video on February 15th showing the savage decapitation of the victimized men. The video, titled "A message signed with blood to the nation of the cross," makes it clear that the men were targeted because of their faith. Additionally, a caption in the video describes the victims as "people of the cross, followers of the hostile Egyptian church."

COLOMBIA: Church Leaders Face Life-Threatening Hostility

Source: Christian Solidarity Worldwide Five church leaders working in the northern coastal city of Barranquilla have received death threats from a neo-paramilitary group, reportedly due to their pastoral care for victims of human rights violations. On January 11th, the Black Eagles neo-paramilitary group printed and circulated a threatening note which included the warning, "We know where you live, and your organizations are also in our sights...we are coming for you."
