Karl Rove: Architect of His Own Political Demise

Last night I watched Karl Rove drive the final nails into his political coffin, as he double-downed his attacks against Christine O'Donnell, on Greta Van Susteren's show "On The Record." It may be awhile before the “funeral” takes place, but the coffin is finished, no doubt.

Peace In Our Time?  I Think Not, Let’s Roll!

"I believe it is peace in our time." -- British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain (1869-1940) Spoken on September 30, 1938, after a meeting with Germany's Adolph Hitler -- war was declared between the two nations less than a year later, and WWII got underway. (Link)

The Bill of Rights Versus the US Constitution

The Anti-Federalists passionately fought for, and won, a Bill of Rights. They believed that only if these enumerated rights were staunchly and explicitly protected would the built-in tendencies toward the consolidation of national power in the Constitution be kept in check. The problem is, of course, that the usurpations of power by the Supreme Court and Congress...have either twisted or all but erased the enumerated rights. ...We have become, willingly or unwillingly, the very worst kind of Federalists feared by the Anti-Federalists: complete dependents on an increasingly despotic federal government. --Dr. Benjamin Wiker, from "10 Books Every Conservative Must Read"

LTC Lakin and the Chain of Command

"Winston Churchill said that 'the destiny of man is not measured by material computation. When great forces are on the move in the world, we learn we are spirits -- not animals.' And he said, 'There is something going on in time and space, and beyond time and space, which, whether we like it or not, spells duty.'" --Ronald Reagan (1911-2004)

What’s So Great About Heterosexuality?

image "When I joined the military it was illegal to be homosexual, then it became optional. I'm getting out before Obama makes it mandatory." --GySgt Harry Berres, USMC "Heterosexuality is not normal, it's just common." --Dorothy Parker Parker's comment is emblematic of the snobbish sarcasm that has historically passed for humor among liberal elites. At the same time, it's blasé dismissal of heterosexuality, is profound in its implications. Ms. Parker's comment underlines two liberal talking points:
  1. heterosexuality is only considered "normal," because it has been forced upon society by a patriarchal hegemony, and
  2. even if it is normal, it is mainly for the entertainment of the hoi polloi, the common folk, the bourgeoisie, the déclassé rabble.

A Conservative Little Big Tent

"I speak at Harvard and I certainly don't endorse their views. I've spoken to Democratic groups and liberal Republican groups that loooove abortion. The main thing I do is speak on college campuses, which is about the equivalent of speaking at an al-Qaida conference. ...in any event, giving a speech is not an endorsement of every position held by the people I'm speaking to." Ann Coulter

The Ground Zero Mosque, and Meaningless Oaths

image"I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter: So help me God." --Oath taken by US members of Congress, and US military officers.

RINOs, Rants, and Revolution

They were as much my brothers as if we shared the same last name. I couldn't have loved them more." Jerry McConnell -- First Marine Division, First Marine Regiment, 3rd Battalion, K Company

What Exactly Is It, We Are Doing In Afghanistan?

"[General Petraeus] we know that a major part of the Kandahar offensive will include some serious repairs, and upgrades to the energy system, which will include small-scale solar and hydro-power systems, and also some solar-powered street lights. I'm just curious if [there are] plans to utilize any of those same technologies at our bases around Afghanistan, and wouldn't that greatly reduce our need for fuel?" -- Gabrielle Giffords (D-AZ) questioning Gen. Petraeus during a Congressional briefing June, 2010

Racism and the Never-ending Storm

Israel and Iran: No Surprise

"…it will not be a surprise attack. In fact, regardless of when Israel attacks Iran the element of surprise does not exist. This confrontation has been discussed for several years and everybody knows about it so there will be no surprises. Israel is ready for it. Iran, Hezbollah and Hamas are ready for it. It’s just a matter of when." --Jerry Pourcy "If Israel Attacks Iran In July 2010...."

Redrawing the Republican Road Map

image"They must take no prisoners. They must root out the traitors in their own party and tar and feather them and parade them in the town square."-- Lee S. Glidden Jr. Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) recently came out with a "new road map" for Republicans. It deals mostly with pragmatic suggestions for fixing the economy, and how can you not love that, after watching the anti-capitalistic, corrupt, destructive machinations of the current Democratic regime? Fred Barnes writes that "If Republicans adopt [Ryan's] road map as their basic ideological blueprint, it offers them the prospect of a landslide in the midterm election this year, followed by victory in the presidential election in 2012."

Our Toxic Gulf: A Wakeup Call

"I've never seen anything like it. We're seeing pods of whales and dolphins out in the oil, and lots of dead things. Things I've never seen before coming up from the deep...floating, dead." Mr. Huber Goes To Washington

Is the Oil Spill Staged?

image"We are not the enemy here." --Anderson Cooper, CNN reporter (referring to the media blackout surrounding the oil spill) Let me say up front that, personally, I don't believe that the oil spill disaster was staged (although I believe that much of the clean-up may well be). So why do I bring up the possibility? Because we are being lied to by both the federal government and BP, and at this point all possible explanations for the oil spill need to remain on the table. On the face of it, asking if the Gulf oil spill is a staged event may seem to be absurd -- what about all the oil washing up on the beaches; what about the deaths from the rig explosion; what about all the money being spent on the clean-up, and so on...?

The American Dream

(by Emmet Fox -- submitted by Jim O'Neill) "The American Dream is not a fine theory to be written upon paper, but a life to be lived, for its own sake and for the sake of the nation, and for the sake of Humanity." Emmet Fox (1886-1951) Emmet Fox was born in Ireland, and raised in England, where his physician father was a member of Parliament. British Prime Minister, William Gladstone, was a regular visitor at the Fox home in England. Although he was born in Ireland (at his mother's insistence), he was conceived in the United States, and "Emmet always claimed that being conceived in New York gave him an American soul," ( from "Emmet Fox: His Life Story").
