NEW HAMPSHIRE GOVERNOR TO PARENTS:  You have no rights if your daughter is pregnant

WASHINGTON – The New Hampshire Parental Notification Bill, which was passed earlier this year by large majorities in the state's legislature was vetoed yesterday by pro-abortion Governor John Lynch. The legislation, which would have required that abortionists give written notice to at least one parent or guardian of a minor girl 48 hours prior to performing an abortion. The bill passed the New Hampshire state House of Representatives in March, 256-102; and in the state Senate May 25, 17-7. "Governor Lynch's veto says to New Hampshire's parents: if your minor daughter is pregnant, you have no rights," said Mary Spaulding Balch, J.D., National Right to Life director of state legislation. "When a minor girl is the victim of abuse by an adult male predator and becomes pregnant, that is the time she needs her parents the most. What Governor Lynch wants is to have a secret abortion performed on the minor girl and send her back to the abusive situation. This is a totally irresponsible decision which can only give comfort to pedophiles."

Federal Judge Denies Planned Parenthood Restraining Order in Indiana

WASHINGTON – Today, the National Right to Life Committee (NRLC), the federation of 50 state right-to-life affiliates, applauded the decision of U.S. District Judge Tanya Walton Pratt to deny a request by Planned Parenthood of Indiana for a temporary restraining order against a new Indiana law that denies state-directed funding for businesses and organizations performing abortions in the state. Judge Pratt's order allows the funding cuts passed by the Indiana legislature and signed by Governor Mitch Daniels earlier this month to immediately take effect. "Planned Parenthood is the nation's largest provider and promoter of abortion," said National Right to Life President Carol Tobias. "As Planned Parenthood's government funding increased so did the number of abortions they performed."

Report: Abortion numbers essentially unchanged

WASHINGTON – A new report released today by the Guttmacher Institute (formerly a special research affiliate of Planned Parenthood), "Abortion Incidence and Access to Services in the United States, 2008," found that for 2008, the annual number of abortions remained essentially level with the numbers it reported for 2005 in its last published survey. The report found 1.212 million abortions in 2008, compared with 1.206 million abortions in 2005, the difference accounted for by abortions from previously uncounted abortion "providers" discovered since the 2005 survey.
