A plea for VA housing funds - Los Angeles Times A plea for VA housing funds L.A. County asks feds to reverse decision that may cost veterans program $34 million. The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) needs to immediately start building new, permanent, supportive-housing on VA property in Los Angeles (not rehabbing old, vacant rat-infested buildings by so-called non-profits who get 70-year leases essentially rent free), and stop warehousing our war-injured Veterans with welfare checks (VASH-HUD vouchers) with cheap, ramshackle apartments in seedy neighborhoods run by slumlords.

There are homeless Veteran encampments right outside the VA fence

The best, most urgent and most productive investment the VA can make right now is to establish a long-term humanitarian (triage) Tent City on VA land to get our war-injured Veterans off the dangerous streets of LA and provide them with safe shelter and proper healthcare. It is a "crime against humanity" to have all this land misused for non-Veteran entities while war-injured Veterans are living homeless and hungry in cardboard boxes behind a dumpster in back-alley squalor or in grossly inhumane conditions at Skid Row. There are homeless Veteran encampments right outside the VA fence. Why can't we have safe and legitimate encampments on the other side of the fence? Warehousing them "out of sight" in grungy apartments is not a solution -- it compounds the problem. They are still "homeless" as so many need immediate mental and physical assistance. A once-a-year, one-day "stand down" is not a solution .... it's not even a band-aid. A plea for VA housing funds - Los Angeles Times A plea for VA housing funds - Los Angeles Times

People were bringing their dogs "inside": the VA right next to the fence where Veterans live "outside" the VA

The LA City public dog park on VA land is open seven days a week, 52 weeks a year. Yesterday, people were bringing their dogs "inside": the VA right next to the fence where Veterans live "outside" the VA. It time for VA Secretary Shulkin to stop bowing down to and prioritizing the wealthy and powerful non-Veteran entities with privileged, low-rent real estate deals and take control of this sacred land entrusted nearly 130 years ago to be permanently maintained as a National Home for Disabled and destitute U.S. Military Veterans. "Save Our Veterans Land" .... "Bring Our Homeless Veterans HOME" God Bless America and the Veterans Revolution!
