A special counsel to probe Obama administration’s collusion with lslamist Iran?
In a throwaway line in a recent column at National Review Online, Andy McCarthy, the former prosecutor of Islamist terror attacks – but not the 1980s movie star – wrote:

Here’s what I’d be tempted to do if I were President Trump: I’d direct the Justice Department to appoint a special counsel to investigate Iran’s efforts to acquire nuclear weapons, including any Obama-administration collusion in that enterprise. I would make sure to call it a “counterintelligence investigation,”…

McCarthy isn’t serious about this suggestion. But maybe he should be.

Let’s not forget what happened between the Obama administration and Iran, starting in roughly 2014. At that point in time, the brutal Islamist regime of Iran, responsible for the deaths of thousands of Americans (most recently U.S. troops in Iraq who were blown to smithereens by Iranian-supplied explosively formed penetrators), was on its economic knees because of U.S. sanctions that had dramatically damaged the Iranian economy. (To give credit where it is due, many of these sanctions were eventually supported by President Obama).

But then, in perhaps the worst foreign policy performance by an American president, ever, President Obama extended his hand to the thuggish Iranian theocrats, giving them $150 billion in frozen oil funds, plus $12 billion in frozen oil funds for the privilege of negotiating with the Iranians, plus $1.7 billion in ransom for American hostages, PLUS up to $700 billion in sanctions relief over the next decade, all for some obviously insincere promises by the Islamic Republic of Iran not to develop nuclear weapons. Much of this money has been used by the Iranians to fund their war and terror machines throughout the Middle East, which has resulted in thousands, if not hundreds of thousands, of deaths.

Please keep in mind that the Iranians are world-renowned for their abilities to lie, and their long, consistent history of cheating when it comes to international agreements.

Not surprisingly, since this deal, officially called the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), was implemented two years ago, the Iranians have been caught cheating over and over again, only for the then-Obama administration and its ideological functionaries in the media and elsewhere to cover for the Iranians, sometimes in the most ludicrous ways. (Even now, while out of office, Obama administration flunkies continue to provide cover for the Iranians.) For example, if you read any AP article on the Iran deal, almost inevitably, the article will claim that the Iranians haven’t violated the JCPOA. This clearly isn’t true. The Iranians have been caught twice now producing excess heavy water, which is used in the development of nuclear weapons. Both times, this excess heavy water was bought up (once by the U.S. and once by Russia), giving the Iranians two more monetary windfalls. Further, the Iranians have barred the international inspectors from inspecting military sites in Iran, even though the JCPOA does not actually allow them to do this. Military sites, of course, are the most logical place for the Iranians to conduct any nuclear testing. And there are other violations as well.

So, we have the former Obama administration that seems to have partnered with the most vicious enemy of the U.S., the Iranians. This administration aligned with the Iranians in defiance of many loyal U.S. allies, including Israel, but also including Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan, and others. The Obama administration also acted in defiance of a solid majority of the U.S. Congress, including many Democrats. And its former officials and their ideological allies continue to lie to protect the Iranians.

Doesn’t this sound like collusion with a foreign enemy?

It also seems quite likely that the Obama administration violated the Constitution and the law as they (allegedly) colluded with the Iranian enemy. First, the JCPOA was not put in front of the Senate as a treaty, in a clear effort to avoid defeat through the normal constitutional treatymaking process. Second, there are credible allegations that the Obama administration may have violated the foreign intelligence surveillance law by conducting electronic surveillance on Israeli officials, which “also swept up the contents of some of their private conversations with U.S. lawmakers and American-Jewish groups.” Third, the Obama administration clearly broke the Iran Nuclear Agreement Review Act, passed in 2015, when it did not turn over to Congress the side deals between Iran and the international agency inspecting Iran, which that law required.

So, we have (alleged) collusion between the Obama administration and the America-hating Iranian regime. And in the process of colluding with the Iranian regime, as suggested above, the Obama administration seems to have violated both the U.S. Constitution and U.S. laws.

If these facts don’t cry out for the immediate appointment of a special counsel, I don’t know what does. Certainly, this situation is far more serious, and far more grounded in fact, than that of the investigation Robert Mueller is conducting into supposed collusion between the Trump administration and Russia to “hack” the 2016 election.

Appoint a special counsel to investigate this matter, President Trump.

Bombthrowers is a blog about politics and the war for the hearts and minds of Americans from a conservative viewpoint.

In line with our name, we do not hold back. We have a take-no-prisoners attitude when it comes to fighting for conservative principles. The Left doesn’t play nice, and that’s why they’ve been winning. It’s time for conservatives to rise up and turn the tide.

We’re not afraid to take on anyone, especially the Washington Establishment—Republican or Democrat.
