Question—if an international organization falls in the forest does it make a sound? File it under “manufactured crisis,” but back in 2005, long before Climate-gate and a succession of brutal winters, the United Nations warned that “catastrophic climate change” would displace millions in the developing world. Global warming had to be addressed – NOW! – because failure to do so would force populations from once habitable land to scattered corners of Gaia.
There is, however, one problem. They predicted 50 million “refugees” by 2010, but not only have they failed to materialize, those areas that were supposed to be submerged by rising seas or made desert have increased in population. The U.N.’s response? Move the goalpost! Indeed, at the annual meeting of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, Cristina Tirado, an environmental researcher, warned – again! – of 50 million climate refugees, thinking perhaps that no one would notice the absurdity. At any rate, the new target year for climate victims to again start wandering the wastes of Africa is 2020. If you want it sooner, don’t hold your breath.
