DoJ uses power of the purse to rein in sanctuary cities

Attorney General Jeff Sessions is adding teeth to his righteous crackdown on so-called sanctuary cities. Any effort to enforce U.S. immigration laws is denounced by the Left as racist as mean-spirited, and this new initiative will no doubt be similarly characterized.

Public Safety Partnership Program (PSP)

Under the new policy Sessions unveiled today, cities that want to participate in the Public Safety Partnership Program (PSP), which hands out funds and assists law enforcement agencies, will have to demonstrate that they are making an effort to reduce crime committed by illegal aliens and cooperating with U.S. immigration authorities, Katie Pavlich writes at Townhall. Sessions said

By protecting criminals from immigration enforcement, cities and states with so-called 'sanctuary' policies make all of us less safe. We saw that just last week, when an illegal alien who had been deported twenty times and was wanted by immigration authorities allegedly sexually assaulted an elderly woman in Portland, a city that refuses to cooperate with immigration enforcement.

"By forcing police to go into more dangerous situations to re-arrest the same criminals, these policies endanger law enforcement officers more than anyone," he said. "The Department of Justice is committed to supporting our law enforcement at every level, and that’s why we're asking 'sanctuary' jurisdictions to stop making their jobs harder."

The new policy came the day after White House Senior Policy Advisor Stephen Miller announced President Trump's proposed revamp of the nation's antiquated immigration system that emphasizes merit over familial relationships. It also came after Sessions came under attack by the Left for the administration's efforts to bring the sadistic, brutal transnational criminal organization MS-13 to heel. Racist left-wing journalist Jamelle Bouie of Slate's reaction was typical. Putting the hurt on MS-13 is racist, he whines. "Trump wasn’t just connecting immigrants with violent crime,” Bouie said. “He was using an outright racist trope: that of the violent, sadistic black or brown criminal, preying on innocent (usually white) women."
