I've been to a lot of NHL games. When you're born in Detroit, they slap your butt to get your lungs working, then they pretty much issue you a set of Red Wings tickets and a little jersey. That's just how it works in Hockeytown. I've said it before and I'll say it again, hockey fans are a different breed. There's not a happier, nicer, more congenial crowd in professional sports.
My beloved Wings may have ended their 25-year playoff streak this spring, but there are still great things happening in the NHL post-season.
Case in point is the following clip from Sunday's Edmonton Oilers / Anaheim Ducks playoff game. The game was held in the great white north, and the mic failed just before the singing of the Star-Spangled Banner. Fortunately, there were 18,000 Canadian hockey fans who were more than willing to fill in.
Prepare to feel a little bit better about the world.
Well done, Edmonton, and thanks.
