Bill Clinton famously asked what the meaning of the word “is” is. He then went on to say he had not had “sexual relations with that woman.” The Clinton’s are masters of misinforming by careful phrasing.
At her press conference, Hillary Clinton explained that she had not included any classified information in the emails she sent from her private email account while she was Secretary of State. Her “I did not email any classified material to anyone on my email. ” was another Clintonesque example of misinforming by selective use of language. Mrs. Clinton carefully avoided telling us whether any classified material was discussed in any of the emails she sent or in the ones she received. In addition to wanting to know the answer to that question we would also ask:
  • Did Mrs. Clinton discuss any sensitive or for official use only material in the emails she sent?
  • Did Mrs. Clinton receive any emails that discussed sensitive or for official use only material?
  • Did any of the emails she sent or received pertain to subjects that have national security implications?
  • Were there any attachments to the emails she sent or received? Undoubtedly, there were.
  • Were any of those attachments classified or contain sensitive or for official use only material?
  • If any of the emails Mrs. Clinton received discussed classified, sensitive or for official use only material or had documents attached that were classified or contained information of a sensitive nature were these forwarded to individuals who were not government officials or sent to non-government email accounts?
  • Mrs. Clinton said that “there is no classified material.” But at any time while she was Secretary of State, were any classified documents or sensitive materials stored on Mrs. Clinton’s private server?
  • Mrs. Clinton has asked us to trust that she turned over to the State Department all of the “work related” emails that she sent during her four years as Secretary of State. Given her history of lies and obfuscations we have to wonder how she is defining “work related.” If this were simply an issue of Mrs. Clinton telling another lie that would not be newsworthy, but if it’s a matter of her having jeopardized national security so that she could at her “convenience” delete any emails that might prove embarrassing, such as ones detailing her involvement in Libya and especially the attack on our Consulate in Benghazi, then that’s another story. Former CIA Director (1995-1996) John Deutch had negotiated a plea agreement to charges that he had violated the law by storing classified material on his personal computers, but before the agreement could be filed he was pardoned by President Clinton. Former National Security Advisor Sandy Berger and former CIA Director General David Petraeus were both convicted for the unauthorized removal of classified materials. If Hillary Clinton received, transmitted or stored classified, sensitive or for official use only information on her private server then she is guilty of violating the law. Sadly, Congress lacks the power to subpoena her private server, and the Obama Justice Department which has that power isn’t about to, so we will never know the truth. But then perhaps we don’t need to. After all, Hillary Clinton has told us to trust her, so what more do we need to know.
