‘Killer’ Trucks don’t work in Progressive Ads or in Terrorist Attacks Did the Latino Victory Fund’s ad, putting a pickup truck with a Confederate flag and an Ed Gillespie bumper sticker chasing down Muslim, Latino and black children on display, give inspiration to suspected terrorist Sayfullo Habibullaevic Saipov to, within days of the ad launch, plow a truck down a bike path, killing eight and injuring more than a dozen others, in Manhattan on Halloween afternoon? The apparent intent of the despicable ad was to smear Gillespie for “spreading hate”.
What about the graphic hate smearing in a message showing a truck bearing a Gillespie bumper sticker chasing down minority children? “An immigrant-rights group pulled down an ad depicting a truck stalking young minority children — an attack ad against the Republican in Virginia’s governor’s race — after the New York vehicle attack Tuesday.” (The Washington Times, Oct. 31, 2017) When’s the last time anyone witnessed a “vehicle” and not its driver making an attack? Most significantly: If the terrorist attack hadn’t killed eight innocents, injuring a dozen others yesterday, would the Victory Fund’s ad still be running today? It wasn’t only the Gillespie campaign who called the ad “vile,” criticism was heaped on the ad from an outraged public as well.
“We have decided to pull our ad at this time,” said Cristóbal J. Alex, the fund’s president. “Given recent events, we will be placing other powerful ads into rotation that highlight the reasons we need to elect progressive leaders in Virginia.” (Washington Times)
Alex’s main response was the intention of “placing other powerful ads into rotation that highlight the reasons we need to elect progressive leaders in Virginia.” No condolences or expressions of sorrow for the loved ones of the innocents slaughtered and injured in yesterday’s terrorist attack. Rather than being charged with a hate crime, the Victory Fund will go on to disseminate other hate-inspiring ads—all for their overriding NEED “to elect progressive leaders in Virginia” and elsewhere. Will their very next ad be one that blames President Donald Trump for yesterday’s terrorist attack? Saipov came in bringing an additional 23 others through the Diversity Visa Program, described as an outreach to people who don’t want to come to the U.S., but are invited in. Diversity is terrorism’s best friend. And it must be the irony of all ironies that the Islamist terrorists never coined the word, America Congress did. Meanwhile President Trump is already working to end the program, mainstream media and Senator Chuck Schumer notwithstanding: "I am, today, starting the process of terminating the diversity lottery program," Trump said, seated next to Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and Defense Secretary Jim Mattis. "I am going to ask Congress to immediately initiate work to get rid of this program, diversity lottery, diversity lottery. Sounds nice, it is not nice, it is not good. It hasn't been good and we have been against it.” (CNN Nov.1, 2017)

“He added: "We're going to quickly as possible get rid of chain migration and move to a merit-based system.” “Trump added that based on preliminary information, the attacker in New York "was the point of contact, the primary point of contact for, and this is preliminarily, 23 people, that came in or potentially came in with him and that is not acceptable." “The comments follow Trump's tweets on Wednesday morning that blamed Sen. Chuck Schumer, a New York Democrat, for the program. "The terrorist came into our country through what is called the 'Diversity Visa Lottery Program,' a Chuck Schumer beauty," Trump tweeted. "I want merit based.” “Schumer was a key shaper of the 1990 legislation that created the program, but also played a lead part in the 2013 Gang of Eight bill that that passed the Senate on a bipartisan basis and included removing the diversity lottery program. The bill would have moved those visas elsewhere in the system and introduced a merit system that took into account multiple factors like family and work skills. “Republican Sens. Tom Cotton and David Perdue have introduced a bill, endorsed by Trump, that would eliminate the diversity lottery and certain categories of family-based green cards, and then would transform the remaining employment-based visas into a point system that favors heavily highly skilled, highly educated, English-speaking immigrants.
“But while there is consensus around needing to reform the process, limited support exists even within the GOP for Cotton and Perdue's bill. “Sen. Jeff Flake, an Arizona Republican who has been an ardent critic of Trump, noted in a tweet Wednesday that the Gang of Eight bill, had it been signed into law, would have done away with the diversity visa program. “The Cotton-Perdue bill would roughly halve the number of green cards overall per year, a point of contention for many Democrats and Republicans alike, and wouldn't easily allow for low skilled immigrants to come to the US permanently, another sticking point for many.” “Trump also labeled the alleged attacker an "animal" to reporters Wednesday, and said the United States must "get much tougher" with terror suspects. “Trump called for "quick justice" and "strong justice" for terror suspects.”
