Since when do radical leftists -- from Chicago, of all places -- decide to leave Congress to spend more time with family?

Pro-terrorist open-borders socialist Luis Gutierrez abruptly schedules retirement One of the most ardent and effective open-borders advocates, Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D-Ill.), announced Tuesday that he will not seek reelection next year. At the same time he made it clear he wants another Chicago radical, Cook County Commissioner Jesus "Chuy" Garcia, to succeed him as congressman from the 4th congressional district in the Land of Lincoln. Gutierrez's departure is welcome news for those of us who know his history, because in addition to his open-borders advocacy, Gutierrez is one of the most ardent, extreme leftists in Congress. On the leftist echo chamber known as MSNBC hours after his surprise announcement, the 13-term congressman who has devoted his life to fundamentally transforming America, claimed he just suddenly out of the clear blue sky decided 1) he wanted to spend more time with his family 2) he wanted to focus on rebuilding Puerto Rico, which he called his "ancestral home," and 3) he wanted to politically organize the immigrant community, by which he probably means the illegal alien community.
At Politico, Natasha Korecki isn't buying the lawmaker's excuses for quitting.
There's nothing normal about the way Illinois Congressman Luis Gutiérrez's retirement announcement went down. The abruptness of his decision, the suspicious timing, the immediate coronation of a successor--all of it set off a flurry of speculation Tuesday that Gutiérrez had made some kind of grand inside play, perhaps brokered with Mayor Rahm Emanuel. Even in the great game of Chicago politics, where backroom deals are a way of life, Gutiérrez's move managed to stun and surprise the Democratic establishment. In one fell swoop, the veteran congressman managed to upend the city's congressional delegation, remake the 2019 mayoral race and set off a domino effect on local offices. "This is clearly a game of musical chairs by the insiders, orchestrated from the top," said Bob Fioretti, a former alderman who ran for mayor against Emanuel and is now running for county board president.
It's hard to believe Gutierrez would abruptly walk away from a job he loves, especially without a gun pointed at his head. Remember, he's from Chicago, the land of Al Capone, Saul Alinsky, and Barack Obama. Things usually don't just happen in Windy City politics. My best guess is Gutierrez took a political dirt nap to head off some kind of scandal. Time will tell.
Whatever his reasons for leaving Capitol Hill, Gutierrez is the poster child for what is wrong with the U.S. Congress. His long history of extreme-left partisanship would disqualify him for any job with a security clearance, but much like Barack Obama and other leftists, he advanced through the political system instead, securing a seat in the House of Representatives in 1992. Like Obama, during the 1980s he worked in the administration of Chicago Mayor Harold Washington, another radical leftist who surrounded himself with Obama mentor Frank Marshall Davis's inner circle of American Communists, and who was mentored for 15 years by Communist Party USA member David Canter. Since early in his career, Gutierrez has associated with or been a member of many radical groups, including:
  • The Marxist-Leninist Puerto Rican Socialist Party
  • The communist League of Revolutionary Struggle
  • The Maoist Freedom Road Socialist Organization
  • The Congressional Progressive Caucus
  • Democratic Socialists of America
Gutierrez has been the Democrats' chief spokesman on immigration issues. And he follows the template of virtually all leftists, calling anyone who opposes Democrats' radical immigration agenda "bigots" "haters" "Islamophobes" and so on. Name your phobe. Gutierrez refused to attend Trump's presidential inaugural, instead participating in the profanity-laced "# hat" women's march, saying:

I'm not going to this inauguration. I can't go to this inauguration because he continues to spew hatred, bigotry and prejudice. Even after, he said he was going to bring us all together. He was going to unify us, but he's not. He continues to spew this kind of hatred. So I'm not going to be there.
Representative Gutierrez, the only bigot is you. Gutierrez is a collaborator and ardent supporter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR). CAIR is a front group for the terrorist organization, HAMAS, and is an unindicted co-conspirator in the Holy Land terrorism financing trial ≠ the largest trial of its kind in U.S. history. CAIR only escaped prosecution because newly-elected president Barack Obama shut down the investigation. Gutierrez gave a speech at CAIR Chicago's banquet in 2012, which was themed "A Future Without Bigotry." Of CAIR, he has said, "Through it all, CAIR has been a steady force steering us towards understanding and the core values that define our nation. Whether it is working in Chicago to build bridges or tirelessly walking the halls of Congress in Washington, CAIR is there." Gutierrez has a strange notion of what constitutes the "core values that define our nation." He was one of the primary advocates for the pardon and release of 16 FALN terrorists by President Clinton. Deborah Burlingame, whose brother was killed in Flight 93 on 9/11, sent a letter in 2013 to now-House Speaker Paul Ryan regarding the Wisconsin Republican's willingness to work with Gutierrez on immigration issues:
[Y]our Immigration Reform partner, Rep. Gutierrez was the chief spokesman for the political wing of the FALN [the Spanish acronym for Armed Forces of National Liberation] terrorist organization which carried out 146 bombings in a 25-year period, killing 9 people and injuring and maiming dozens. Rep. Gutierrez was the chief advocate for the pardoning of 16 convicted FALN members, whose sentences ranged up to 90 years, men and women so dangerous they were shackled for their trial and the presiding judge wore a gun under his robes because they had threatened to kill him in open court. Rep. Gutierrez against all evidence, including FBI undercover videotapes of these people making bombs, called them political prisoners, and threatened to marshal the Puerto Rican community against the Clintons, Vice President Gore, then preparing a presidential run as well.
Gutierrez apparently believes that terrorists reflect "core American values." So why was Ryan working with him? They conspired in secret to push through a version of the "gang of eight" amnesty bill proposed in 2013 by Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.). With friends like Paul Ryan, who needs enemies? As many of the good things that have befallen the GOP in recent years -- like majorities in both houses -- Republicans have done little to earn them. Rather, the American people, recognizing the existential threat leftist politicians pose to the U.S., have taken it upon themselves to turn to the only other viable alternative. The GOP talks a pretty good game on conservative issues around election time, but as the nation has discovered to its horror, among most of them, that's all it is, talk. Is Gutierrez perhaps giving up hope for amnesty? A recent poll suggests that the proposed "DREAM Act," which would amnesty about 3 million illegal aliens and legislation implementing DACA (Deferred Action on Childhood Arrivals) recipients, is not likely to get through Congress at this time. Gutierrez's departure has now provided the GOP with another windfall -- voluntarily taking himself out of the game. Will the GOP take advantage of this to try to replace Gutierrez with someone whose interests are not wholly inimical to those of American citizens? Don't count on it. Like Gutierrez, many of those nominal GOP members only support "core American values" around election time. At all other times they supplicate at the feet of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, another erstwhile conservative organization that forgot its principles in the never-ending scramble for cheap labor. But today we get a small victory. Count our blessings.
